Six Fall days in Patagonia
One additional day changes the shape of a Patagonia fishing week.
It creates room to follow the weather rather than fight it, to fish contrasting water without rushing, and to return to a river that deserves a second look. At Challhuaquen Lodge, the Saturday-to-Saturday program provides seven nights and six complete guided fishing days – a format designed for anglers who want to experience more of lower Northern Patagonia than a conventional five-day lodge week allows.
That extra day is the central idea behind our March 2027 hosted week: more time on the water, more flexibility for the guides and a fuller introduction to the rivers, lakes and spring creeks surrounding Trevelin.
WHY THE SIXTH DAY MATTERS
Patagonia rewards flexibility. A strong wind may favor protected water. A hatch can make one river the obvious choice while changing flows open another. Sometimes the best decision is to revisit productive water with a different method, or simply give an angler another day to settle into the pace and precision the fishing requires.
With six guided days, the week does not need to be compressed. There is time for a broad river float, a technical walk-and-wade session, a day among the glacial lakes and clear rivers of Los Alerces National Park, and smaller spring-creek water where every cast becomes deliberate. The program can evolve as the conditions do.
The benefit is not merely an extra day’s fishing. It’s genuinely a better-balanced week.

CHUBUT, NORTHERN PATAGONIA IN FALL
Challhuaquen sits outside Trevelin in Chubut Province, in the southern reaches of Northern Patagonia. The lodge overlooks the Río Futaleufú and faces the mountains and ancient forests of Los Alerces National Park—a landscape that begins to change as March moves toward fall.
Mornings become cooler, the light softens and the first autumn tones appear through the valley. River levels are often lower and clearer than earlier in the season, placing greater value on thoughtful presentations, careful wading and a guide’s understanding of each piece of water.
March is not about prescribing one technique. Dry flies, dry-dropper rigs, nymphs and streamers can all have a role. The advantage lies in having enough varied water—and enough days—to respond intelligently to what Patagonia provides.
ONE LODGE, A WIDER FISHING CIRCUIT
The Futaleufú is Challhuaquen’s home river: a substantial fishery with broad glides, riffles, deeper pools and room to cover water by boat. Yet the lodge’s real strength is the breadth of its regional program.
Depending on conditions, access and the group’s priorities, guides can draw on the rivers and lakes of Los Alerces, intimate spring creeks on the Patagonian steppe, and freestone water extending toward Corcovado and Río Pico. Wild brown and rainbow trout are the principal quarry, with opportunities for brook trout and landlocked salmon on selected waters.
No rigid day-by-day schedule is imposed. The guides choose water according to river levels, wind, hatches, travel time and the style of fishing guests most want to experience. That freedom becomes especially valuable during a six-day week.
A SERIOUS ANGLER’S LODGE
The lodge is built around fishing, but the days do not end at the riverbank. Six spacious suites have private bathrooms and views toward the Futaleufú or surrounding mountains. Guests return to generous Patagonian meals, Argentine wines, comfortable common spaces and a mountain spa overlooking the river valley.
It is a polished counterpoint to an active week: organize tackle in the fly-tying room, share the day’s stories over dinner, then use the sauna or Jacuzzi before doing it all again the following morning.

OUR MARCH 2027 HOSTED WEEK
Isolation Outfitters will host Challhuaquen’s Saturday-to-Saturday program from March 6–13, 2027. The week includes seven nights at the lodge and six full days of guided fly fishing, priced at US$5,800 per angler.
Hosting adds support before and throughout the trip, from travel planning and tackle preparation to coordination on the ground. The group remains deliberately small, allowing the guides to keep the fishing program responsive and personal.
