YOUR NEW ZEALAND. YOUR WAY.

FOUR WAYS TO FISH NEW ZEALAND

Spotting a wild trout in clear water, planning the approach, and making the first cast is at the heart of New Zealand fly fishing. From forested backcountry streams to broad valleys and wilderness rivers, the experience can be as adventurous or as accessible as you want to make it.

Isolation Outfitters brings local knowledge, experienced guides, and thoughtful trip planning to four distinct fishing programs. Join our signature November expedition, build a private heli-fishing adventure, spend several days exploring with a guide, or travel independently between selected cottage stays.

Heli-Fish New Zealand

Build your private fishing adventure around helicopter access to remote water. Combine quality lodge stays with day fly-ins, even spend a night in a backcountry hut or camp, or bring both together in an itinerary shaped around your dates, available time, and fishing ambitions.

New Zealand Guided Fly Fishing

Put experienced local guides and exceptional lodge stays at the center of your multi-day fishing program. We plan around your ability, fitness, and the conditions, reaching suitable water on foot, by helicopter, jet boat, or raft. Professional guiding supports every fishing day, and evenings are spent in selected lodges or quality riverside accommodation.

New Zealand Fly Fishing Journeys

Drive to your cottage, settle in, and walk to the river. These independent journeys combine selected cottage stays with a thoughtfully planned fishing route, including accessible backcountry streams. Optional guides can be booked ahead for your first day or two, for specific waters, and we can provide guided float or jet boat outings along your journey.

HOW WILL YOU FISH NEW ZEALAND?

HELI-FISHING & SKYBOUND SOUTH

Helicopter access opens up a different kind of fishing itinerary. Fly into remote water for the day and return to your lodge that evening, or stay in a backcountry hut or camp to spend more time exploring a river.

Heli-Fish New Zealand is a private program built around this experience. We work with your preferred dates, available time, and accommodation preferences to plan suitable locations and a balance of day fly-ins and overnight stays. It can be a focused fishing adventure or part of a longer New Zealand journey.

Skybound South is our signature hosted November expedition. It brings together scheduled departures, an established backcountry format, professional guiding, and full hosting. Choose it when you want to join a planned expedition with the arrangements already brought together.

Both involve fishing on foot once you reach the river. We discuss terrain, walking requirements, and weather flexibility during planning.

SELF-DRIVE FISHING JOURNEYS

A cottage base, nearby fishing, and the freedom to set your own pace. New Zealand Fly Fishing Journeys connects selected places to stay with a practical route and a fishing plan for each stop.

Note: we don’t share our cottage accommodation or any locations on this site.

The emphasis is on accessible water, including backcountry streams: drive to your accommodation, settle in, and walk to the river. Your itinerary considers driving distances, time at each base, and how fishing fits around the rest of your vacation.

Guiding is optional and arranged ahead where it adds the most value. You might start with a guide for a day or two, fish independently afterward, then meet another guide for particular water or a float or jet boat outing.

This program suits anglers comfortable making their own decisions on independent fishing days. We provide the planning and connections; you retain the freedom to explore.

MULTI-DAY GUIDED FISHING

With New Zealand Guided Fly Fishing, professional guiding supports every fishing day. The program begins with your experience, fitness, and ambitions, then brings together suitable waters and the means of reaching them.

Your guide helps read the conditions, locate fish, plan approaches, and make the most of each presentation. Several days together allow the fishing to develop as your guide learns what you enjoy and where you want to improve.

Backcountry and wilderness rivers can involve substantial walking. Other opportunities may call for helicopter access, a jet boat, or a raft. Transport follows the fishing plan, with the physical demands discussed before booking.

Choose this program when you want local expertise throughout your time on the water, including help adapting the day’s approach as conditions change.
