Brook Trout Base Camp sits on a quiet bend of the Río Corcovado in the wild country surrounding Lago Vintter and Río Pico. Its private estancia setting puts anglers within reach of rivers, spring creeks, small streams and secluded lakes holding brook, brown and rainbow trout.
The defining opportunity is the region’s wild brook trout, including fish of exceptional size. Depending on the water and conditions, days can combine floating and wading while the guides adapt the program around river levels, weather, seasonal activity and the interests of each pair of anglers. The lake-run brook trout movement begins during March and becomes particularly active into the fall.
Five wooden casitas accommodate a maximum of ten guests. Each has a private bathroom, hot water, heating and a choice of twin or king-bed configuration. A central dining and lounge tent, chef-prepared meals, Argentine wines and fireside asados bring considerable comfort to this remote, principally solar-powered camp.
2026/27 FOUR-NIGHT PACKAGE
Four nights with guided fishing, en-suite accommodation, full board, Argentine wines and open bar, private-water access, activity transfers and return road transfers from Esquel Airport: US$5,000 per angler, based on two guests sharing a cabin and guide team.

BROOK TROUT COUNTRY
Brook trout are the defining fish here. Set beside the Río Corcovado near Lago Vintter, the camp places anglers within reach of the lakes and small streams of the Engaño watershed, together with the spring creeks, freestone rivers and stillwaters surrounding Río Pico.
These are not interchangeable fisheries. Each responds differently to changing flows, light, wind and seasonal activity, giving the guide team meaningful alternatives rather than forcing every day into a fixed rotation. Wild rainbow and brown trout add further variety, but the opportunity to pursue genuinely large brook trout is what distinguishes this part of Patagonia.
A SEASON THAT KEEPS CHANGING
November and December bring higher spring flows, active post-winter trout and the beginning of productive hatches. January and February offer long summer days, clearer water and increasingly important terrestrial fishing.
From early March, lake-run brook trout begin entering selected waters. This movement generally strengthens from mid-March through April. Conditions become cooler and more variable, but this is also an important period for anglers specifically interested in large brook trout and focused streamer fishing.
THE RÍO CORCOVADO AND LAGO VINTTER
The Río Corcovado flows from Lago Vintter through open steppe and forested country. Both the lake and river support resident and migratory rainbow trout, alongside brook and brown trout. Larger water can be covered from a boat, while wading is used where access, flows and the selected fishing approach allow.
Its position beside the river gives the camp immediate access to the fishery while keeping anglers close to the other waters that make the area so versatile.
ENGAÑO AND RÍO PICO WATERS
The Engaño watershed is central to the brook trout program, with interconnected lakes and small streams supporting strong wild populations. The Río Pico district broadens the fishing through secluded lakes, spring creeks and smaller freestone rivers, including the Río Pico, Río Pampa and Río Nilson.
Some days are about covering productive water. Others require slower movement, careful observation and an accurate first presentation to a visible fish. This combination of scale and technique is a major part of the appeal.
A PROGRAM BUILT AROUND CONDITIONS
There is no prescribed daily circuit. Guides select the water and the balance of floating, walking and wading according to weather, water levels, seasonal activity and the interests of each pair of anglers. That flexibility is especially valuable during a shorter stay.
BROOK TROUT BASE CAMP AT A GLANCE

FIVE RIVERSIDE CASITAS
Brook Trout Base Camp accommodates no more than ten guests in five wooden, double-occupancy casitas close to the Río Corcovado. Each has twin beds that can be arranged as a king, a private bathroom with hot water, screened windows, electric lighting, storage and propane heating.
The scale is intentionally small. Guests return from the water to a private room and proper hot shower while retaining the atmosphere and direct connection to the landscape of a remote fishing camp.
DINING AND CAMP LIFE
Meals are served in a central dining and lounge tent with large windows, comfortable seating, wood-burning stoves and a riverside deck. Evenings may continue around the outdoor fire or quincho with Argentine wine, appetizers and an asado.
Renewable energy supplies the camp’s electricity and hot water. Starlink is available in selected common areas, although mobile coverage remains limited.
BEYOND THE WATER
Non-fishing time can include guided walking and birding, subject to the chosen program and conditions. Routes lead through lenga forest to places such as Lago Gaucho, Lago Berta, Hahn Waterfall and the slopes of Cerro Vinter.
The surrounding wetlands, forests and steppe support ducks, geese, woodpeckers and other Patagonian birdlife. These activities provide worthwhile options for non-angling partners and for guests wanting to see more of the country beyond the river.
WHY FISH THE RÍO CORCOVADO?
Brook Trout Base Camp is built around one of Patagonia’s most distinctive opportunities: fishing for genuinely large wild brook trout. Set beside the upper Río Corcovado near Lago Vintter, the camp provides immediate access to productive resident-trout water, while the lake-run brook trout movement becomes an important focus from early March into the fall.
The Río Corcovado is only part of the program. Guides can draw on the Engaño watershed and selected rivers, spring creeks, smaller streams and secluded lakes around Río Pico. Wild brown and rainbow trout add variety, but the quality of the brook trout, and the range of water in which they can be pursued, defines the experience.
There is no fixed daily program. Weather, seasonal activity and each angler’s priorities determine whether a day involves floating, walking and wading, sight-fishing or covering larger water with streamers. The result is a highly adaptable fishing week from a small, comfortable base in one of Chubut’s least-pressured angling sub-regions.

We will confirm availability, current rates, guide arrangements and the most practical itinerary through Esquel before a reservation is made. The four-night stay can stand alone or form part of a longer Northern Patagonia journey.
GETTING THERE
Most international guests travel through Buenos Aires. International flights normally arrive at Ezeiza Airport (EZE), while domestic services to Esquel generally depart from Aeroparque (AEP). Allow at least three and a half hours to change airports, or plan a Buenos Aires overnight where the flight schedule makes that more sensible.
Esquel Airport (EQS) is the primary gateway for the camp. From Esquel, the journey takes approximately three hours by 4WD. Return road transfers from Esquel are included. Bariloche can provide an alternative gateway, but the road journey is considerably longer and an additional transfer charge applies.
AT THE CAMP
Brook Trout Base Camp provides five heated, en-suite casitas with hot water, electric lighting and twin beds that can be configured as a king. Meals, drinks and time between fishing days are centred around the shared riverside dining and lounge tent.
Starlink is available in selected common areas, but mobile coverage is limited. Laundry service is not available, so pack accordingly. Guided walking and birdwatching may be arranged for non-angling guests, subject to the selected program, local conditions and advance confirmation.
2026/27 FOUR-NIGHT PACKAGE
The current four-night rate is US$5,000 per angler, based on double occupancy and two anglers sharing a professional guide and assistant.
The package includes en-suite camp accommodation, guided fishing, applicable private-water and access fees, full board, Argentine wines and open bar, return Esquel Airport transfers, daily fishing transport and guided non-fishing activities. Flies, lines, leaders and tippet are provided. Waders, wading boots and rain jackets can also be supplied when requested in advance.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
International and domestic airfares, Buenos Aires accommodation, meals and airport transfers, fishing licences, any required Bariloche Airport transfer, staff and guide gratuities, personal purchases and personal, health or travel insurance are not included. Laundry is not available at the camp.
Single accommodation, private guiding and non-angling arrangements are available at different rates, subject to availability. Your Isolation Outfitters itinerary will confirm the final rate, inclusions and exclusions for your booking.
Optional: A local pilot can fly your group from Esquel Airport to an airstrip near the camp, avoiding the 3hr road transfer. We recommend doing this.
BOOKING, INSURANCE AND PREPARATION
Once dates and arrangements are confirmed, Isolation Outfitters will provide a detailed itinerary, invoice, payment schedule and applicable cancellation terms. A reservation is secured once the required deposit has been received.
Comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, interruption, delays, medical treatment and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended. Guests should also check current Argentine entry requirements and carry evidence of international medical cover.
Weather can change quickly in this part of Patagonia. Bring adaptable layers, a reliable waterproof shell, sun protection and clean, completely dry waders and boots. We will provide a detailed seasonal clothing and fishing-tackle list before departure.
