TWO EXPEDITIONS IN NOVEMBER 2028

HOSTED HELI-FISHING DEEP IN NEW ZEALAND’S SOUTH ISLAND

Skybound South is a five-day hosted expedition built around three complete days of helicopter-accessed fly fishing in remote South Island brown-trout country. Two departures are scheduled for November 20–24, 2028 and November 27–December 1, 2028. Each expedition is strictly limited to two anglers fishing with one professional guide and host.

The helicopter carries the team beyond the road network to a backcountry river chosen for its water levels, weather, trout activity and safe flying conditions. Accommodation during the fishing program is in a riverside hut or a fully equipped tent camp, depending on the selected water.

This is technical sight-fishing for large wild brown trout in clear, lightly pressured rivers. Expect long days on foot, confident wading and demanding presentations to fish that may offer only one good opportunity. Trout in the 5–8 lb range are a realistic prospect on the right water, with opportunities at larger browns.

Isolation Outfitters coordinates the agreed South Island road and helicopter transfers, local accommodation and meals before and after the backcountry expedition, professional guiding, camp equipment, backcountry meals and beverages, tackle support, satellite communications and trip photography. Your guide and host remain with you throughout the program.

November is deliberate. The early season brings cooler water, active trout and less backcountry traffic than the summer months. It is also spring in New Zealand, so the selected river, helicopter schedule and precise daily program remain dependent on weather, water levels and safe flying conditions. Visiting anglers should retain some flexibility around their expedition dates wherever possible.

THE SKYBOUND SOUTH ITINERARY

THREE To FOUR DAYS OF SOUTH ISLAND FLY FISHING

DAY 1 · MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20 OR 27

We collect you from the New Zealand town, city or airport agreed when planning your trip and relocate to the departure base nearest the selected river. Local hotel accommodation, dinner and beverages are included, followed by an early breakfast before the helicopter flight.

We complete a final equipment check that evening. Bring supportive wading boots with non-felt soles, quality polarized sunglasses and your usual fishing clothing and tackle. We normally wet-wade, although chest waders are available when required. A comprehensive packing list is provided after booking, and we can supply or procure rods, reels, lines, flies and other tackle arranged in advance.

DAY 2 · TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 OR 28

As early as conditions allow, we fly directly to the selected backcountry river. The helicopter first delivers the group and equipment to the riverside hut or tent camp. Where the terrain and flight plan permit, it then positions us downstream so we can fish back toward camp.

This is the first complete fishing day. The two anglers agree on a fair fishing order with the guide and rotate opportunities as fish are located. Accurate presentation and close attention to the guide matter because these trout may provide only one good chance. A prepared lunch, snacks, dinner, beverages, flies and photography support are included.

DAY 3 · WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22 OR 29

After a hot breakfast and coffee, we pack lunch and begin a second complete day on foot. The precise program depends on the river selected for the expedition. It may include the main river, smaller tributaries, backwaters or an isolated high-country lake where suitable water is available.

Expect clear water, large wild brown trout and deliberate sight-fishing rather than covering the river quickly. Lunch, snacks and warm drinks are carried during the day. Be prepared for a cool start, uneven ground, confident wading and long periods of walking between fish.

DAY 4 · THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23 OR 30

The final complete fishing day is shaped by what we have learned during the previous two days. We may return to an elusive fish, revisit the water that produced the best opportunities or continue exploring upstream or downstream. The plan is agreed the previous evening around the campfire or in the hut.

Camp and personal equipment are prepared for departure, and we use satellite communications to reconfirm the helicopter collection point, weather and timing.

DAY 5 · FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24 OR DECEMBER 1

Where the selected water, helicopter schedule and onward travel arrangements permit, an optional final half-day fishing session is included before departure. Otherwise, the helicopter collects us after breakfast or at the safest available flying window.

We return to the hotel or agreed transfer point. If you are continuing your journey independently, the hosted program can conclude at the hotel. After the expedition, we edit a selection of photographs and video from the trip, remove identifying location details and send the finished files for you to keep and share.

RIVER SELECTION AND WEATHER

We are monitoring suitable South Island river systems for the 2028 expeditions. The final choice is based on river levels, weather, trout activity and safe helicopter access immediately before departure.

November is spring in New Zealand. High winds, heavy rain, snow or low cloud can alter the river, helicopter timing or expedition dates. Anglers traveling specifically for Skybound South should retain several flexible days around the program wherever possible.

HUT OR RIVERSIDE CAMP

Accommodation beside the river will be at an established backcountry hut. We also offer the option of a night or two in a fully equipped tent camp, depending on the selected water.

For tent-based trips, we provide modern MSR three- or four-season tents, sustainable goose-down sleeping bags, MSR inflatable sleeping mats, cooking equipment and stoves, which we operate for you. All trip meals, snacks and beverages are planned before departure, including dietary requirements and preferred drinks.

TRAVEL, RESERVATIONS AND NEW ZEALAND ENTRY

PLAN YOUR 2028 SKYBOUND SOUTH EXPEDITION

RESERVATIONS AND CONFIRMATION

Each Skybound South departure is strictly limited to two anglers. Contact Isolation Outfitters with your preferred week, international departure city and any additional New Zealand travel plans.

Your reservation is secured once availability has been confirmed in writing and the 50% deposit has been received. Please allow us to confirm the South Island arrival point and transfer arrangements before purchasing non-refundable domestic flights. Your final itinerary will clearly identify where the included road transfers begin and end.

FARE, DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT

The 2028 hosted-trip fare is US$4,995 per angler. A 50% deposit confirms the reservation, with the remaining balance due 90 days before departure.

Payment can be made in US dollars to our nominated account, in New Zealand dollars at the agreed exchange rate, or by major credit card through a secure payment link. International and domestic flights, New Zealand fishing licenses and personal travel expenses are not included.

INSURANCE AND FLEXIBLE TRAVEL

Comprehensive travel insurance, including emergency medical treatment and evacuation, is required. Proof of suitable cover must be provided when the final balance is paid.

Spring weather can affect helicopter operations and travel arrangements. We strongly recommend flexible or changeable airfares, suitable protection for delayed or canceled travel, and sufficient time around your New Zealand itinerary to absorb an unexpected change.

FLYING FROM THE UNITED STATES

Air New Zealand is an excellent option for travel from the United States, with services through major US gateways into Auckland and onward connections across New Zealand. Routes and schedules can change, so send us your proposed flights before ticketing and we will check that the connections work with the expedition.

If Auckland is your first New Zealand port of entry, allow sufficient time to complete immigration and biosecurity formalities before continuing to the South Island. Do not book the final domestic sector until Isolation Outfitters has confirmed the required arrival airport and time.

PASSPORT, NZETA AND TRAVELLER DECLARATION

United States passport holders can normally visit New Zealand under the visa-waiver program but must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority before travel. Immigration New Zealand advises travelers to allow 72 hours for processing, although we recommend completing it well before departure.

Every traveler must also complete the free New Zealand Traveller Declaration. It can currently be submitted from 24 hours before beginning your journey to New Zealand and must be completed before passport control. Entry requirements can change, so every guest should recheck the official requirements before departure.

NEW ZEALAND BIOSECURITY AND FISHING EQUIPMENT

New Zealand enforces strict biosecurity controls. Do not bring fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, honey, seeds or plant material. All food and every item of used fishing, hiking, camping or outdoor equipment must be declared on arrival.

Wading boots, waders, rods, lines, packs, tents and other outdoor equipment must be completely clean and dry, with no soil, seeds or plant matter attached. Felt-soled footwear is prohibited for freshwater fishing in New Zealand and should be left at home. If you are uncertain about an item, declare it. Failure to declare a biosecurity risk item can result in an immediate fine.
