ABOUT US
ABOUT Isolation Outfitters
Welcome to Isolation Outfitters, the home of bespoke fly fishing travel for discerning anglers. We specialize in creating unforgettable angling experiences in remote, pristine locations worldwide — a philosophy we call ‘Exploration Angling’.
With bases in Bozeman, Montana, plus Wānaka, New Zealand and a new Mendoza, Argentina office in 2026, we serve passionate anglers from across the globe, designing tailored journeys to trophy trout, salmon, and saltwater destinations. Our US presence allows us to provide local transactional support for our many US clients, while New Zealand and Argentina locations offer trusted local knowledge and guidance for Southern Hemisphere adventures.
We offer:
Independent advice on remote global destinations
Exclusive access to trout and salmon waters
Tailored itineraries for solo travelers and small groups
Bookings for recommended fishing lodges
Hosted, full-service expeditions
Crafted luxury angling journeys
Gear recommendations and outfitter supplies
Comprehensive pre-travel guides and trip support
Led by Michael Gregg, we’ve been providing independent travel advice to fly anglers since 2012 and hosting bespoke expeditions since 2022. Our guides are professionally registered in every country we operate, including in New Zealand, where they hold Department of Conservation concessions for public waters.
Like our clients, we are avid anglers. We explore wild rivers, high-country lakes, tropical flats, and untamed estuaries — driven by a passion for fishing, travel, culture, and cuisine. We obsess over every detail, from the angling experience to quality service, food, and accommodation, ensuring every trip is seamless and memorable.
Partnerships
We build partnerships with the lodges we work alongside and support season-round bookings with our own hosted trip program.
We work with remote expedition outfitters, No Slack Loops to plan and deliver one-off angling missions. These trips include exploring the most isolated Pacific atolls such as Kanton Island in Kiribati’s Phoenix Island chain, or casting to chunky rainbows in spring creeks high in the Salta province of Argentina.
For anglers traveling to New Zealand with non-fishing friends or family, we partner with Queenstown-based Splendid South to create complete luxury itineraries. These combine guided and DIY fishing, trusted local lodges, fine dining, and partner or family-friendly activities — so everyone enjoys the journey, both on and off the water.
Giving Back: The Wild Waters Fund
Angling with Isolation Outfitters is ‘exploration with purpose’. Through our Wild Waters Fund, we currently dedicate over 1% of all sales revenue to protecting the atolls, rivers, lakes, and coastal habitats we fish.
By choosing a journey with us, you’re not only experiencing the finest lodges and trophy waters — you’re directly contributing to conservation projects, community initiatives, and the preservation of wild places for future generations.
The Wild Waters Fund is currently supporting conversation measures in Manuae Island near Aitutaki in the Cook Islands with security, connectivity and a remote power supply.
Our story
About Isolation Outfitters
Exploration angling
Remote water. Local knowledge. Every detail considered.
Isolation Outfitters creates bespoke fly fishing journeys for anglers who care where they fish, when they go, and who they travel with.
We specialise in remote and remarkable fisheries: wild trout rivers, high-country lakes, tropical flats and untamed estuaries. We call our approach Exploration Angling - carefully planned travel that reaches beyond the familiar without leaving important details to chance.
From Bozeman, Montana, Wānaka in New Zealand and Mendoza in Argentina, we combine local support across three fishing regions with trusted relationships around the world.
How we work
Good fishing starts long before the first cast.
Our role is to match the angler, the water and the seasonal window - then make the journey around that fishing feel considered from beginning to end.
The right water at the right time
We favour firsthand knowledge and current local intelligence over generic recommendations. Every itinerary is shaped around conditions, timing, access and the fishing experience you actually want.
Independent, personal advice
We plan for solo anglers, fishing partners and small groups. Advice begins with honest conversations about ambitions, ability, preferred pace, accommodation and the people sharing the journey.
Support beyond the booking
Detailed pre-travel information, equipment guidance, local contacts and practical trip support help guests arrive prepared and able to focus on the experience rather than the logistics.
Built by anglers
We fish the places we recommend.
Led by Michael Gregg, Isolation Outfitters has provided independent travel advice to fly anglers since 2012 and hosted bespoke expeditions since 2022.
Like our guests, we are anglers first. We explore rivers, lakes, flats and estuaries because we care about the fishing - and because firsthand experience changes the quality of the advice we can give.
Our registered guides and local partners bring the professional knowledge, concessions and regional experience required to operate responsibly in every country in which we work.
A global team with local reach
Three regions. One standard of support.
Our Bozeman presence provides local transactional support for US and Canadian guests. Wānaka places us close to New Zealand’s South Island fisheries, while Mendoza strengthens our knowledge and guest support across Argentina and Patagonia.
Those bases connect our guests with people who understand local seasons, transfers, guides, lodges and the small details that can determine whether a complicated fishing journey runs smoothly.
Fishing matters enormously, but so do the accommodation, food, wine, culture and company around it. We consider the whole journey.
What we arrange
From first idea to final transfer.
Some guests join a hosted departure. Others need one lodge, a private guide or a complete multi-country itinerary. We shape the service around the journey.
Partnerships
Relationships built for the long term.
We build enduring partnerships with lodges, guides and outfitters rather than assembling anonymous inventory. Those relationships support both our hosted programme and independent bookings throughout the season.
For exploratory missions, we work with remote-expedition specialists No Slack Loops. Together we plan journeys to places such as Kanton Island in Kiribati’s Phoenix Islands and emerging freshwater destinations in northern Argentina.
For guests travelling through New Zealand with non-fishing partners or family, Queenstown-based Splendid South helps us create complete luxury itineraries combining fishing, lodges, dining and experiences beyond the river.
Exploration with purpose
Giving something back to wild water.
Through the Wild Waters Fund, Isolation Outfitters currently directs more than one percent of sales revenue towards protecting the rivers, lakes, atolls and coastal habitats connected to our travels.
Our guests help support practical conservation and community initiatives in the places that make this kind of fishing possible. Current work includes security, connectivity and remote-power support for conservation measures on Manuae Island near Aitutaki in the Cook Islands.
Exploration should leave wild places with a stronger future - not simply another set of footprints.
