THE FISHING

Challhuaquen’s fishing program is anchored by the Río Futaleufú, one of the largest and most varied trout rivers in the Esquel and Trevelin region. Its cold, clear water moves between broad glides, riffles and deep pools, creating opportunities to fish from both boat and bank with dry flies, dry-dropper rigs, nymphs and streamers.

LOS ALERCES NATIONAL PARK

Los Alerces is a landscape of glacial lakes, interconnected rivers, temperate forest and high Andean peaks. Possible fishing days include the Río Arrayanes, Río Rivadavia, Lago Verde, Lago Krüger and Estrecho de los Monstruos.

SPRING CREEKS AND WALK-AND-WADE WATER

Arroyo Pescado presents clear water, selective trout and precise casting with smaller flies. The Ríos Corintos and Percey provide attractive freestone and spring-creek-style water for anglers who enjoy covering a river carefully on foot.

CORCOVADO, RÍO PICO AND THE SOUTHERN LAKES

When conditions and itinerary allow, the Corcovado and Río Pico districts extend the program into faster freestone rivers and lakes holding brown, rainbow and brook trout.

THE LODGE

Challhuaquen has six individually styled double suites, each with a private bathroom, heating and wide views across the Futaleufú valley or toward the mountains. Rooms can be arranged for double or single occupancy, subject to availability.

A fireplace anchors the main lounge, while a reading area, fly-tying room, wine cellar and riverside viewpoint provide quieter places between fishing sessions. The mountain spa includes a dry sauna, Jacuzzi, Scottish shower and massage room.

FOOD AND HOSPITALITY

The kitchen combines Patagonian ingredients and traditions with international influences. Lunch travels to the river, and dinner is served back at the lodge with a selection of Argentine wines. Special menus and dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.

A TYPICAL DAY

After breakfast, anglers leave with their guides for a full day on the Futaleufú or one of the region’s rivers, spring creeks or lakes. Lunch is served on the water. The destination and technique remain flexible so each day can respond to conditions and the priorities of the anglers.

NON-ANGLING PARTNERS

The lodge’s setting, cuisine and spa can suit non-angling partners. Subject to local availability, Isolation Outfitters can arrange winery visits, scenic flights, horseback riding, hiking, birdwatching and regional touring.
