CXI: MARCH 31 – APRIL 07, 2027
APRIL AT IKARI HOUSE
APRIL 2027 · KIRITIMATI, KIRIBATI
A FULLY HOSTED CHRISTMAS ISLAND FLY FISHING WEEK
The March 31–April 7, 2027 departure is a fully hosted Wednesday-to-Wednesday week on Christmas Island for a maximum of six anglers. Guests stay at Ikari House for seven nights and fish six guided days across Kiritimati’s extensive lagoon flats, channels and reef edges.
Ikari means bonefish, and bonefish are the principal day-to-day target. There are also serious opportunities for giant trevally, other trevally species and triggerfish. Ikari House operates its own fast fiberglass boats from the nearby launching beach, allowing the guides to move efficiently between productive areas as the tides, light and wind change. Standard guiding is based on two anglers sharing one guide and boat. Single guide/boat options are available.
Ikari House is in London Village, also known locally as Ronton, beside the main lagoon entrance. Air-conditioned ensuite rooms, cooked breakfasts, daily laundry, tackle-rinsing facilities and evening meals in the beachfront maneaba provide a practical and comfortable base for a full week on the flats.
This hosted week can be booked independently of Fanning Island, however anglers wanting the complete two-atoll journey can continue to Fanning Island from April 7–14, 2027, creating the March 31–April 14 Christmas Island and Fanning Island itinerary. Our Fanning Island + CXI expedition remains subject to inter-island flight availability.

THE SEPTEMBER 2027 PROGRAM
FANNING ISLAND FLY FISHING, DAY BY DAY
INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL · TUESDAY, MARCH 30, 2027
North American anglers normally depart Honolulu on the weekly Fiji Airways service on Tuesday, March 30. Because missing this flight could mean missing the entire trip, we recommend arriving in Honolulu no later than Monday and staying overnight. The flight crosses the International Date Line and lands on Kiritimati on Wednesday.
Guests traveling from New Zealand or Australia normally connect through Nadi. Final flight times, baggage allowances and transfer arrangements will be confirmed in the predeparture itinerary.
ARRIVAL · WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31
The Nadi service is currently expected to arrive at approximately 6:30 a.m. The Ikari House team meets guests at Cassidy International Airport and transfers them approximately 40 minutes by road to London Village, also known locally as Ronton. After breakfast at the lodge, early-arriving anglers from Nadi may add a full guided fishing day. This is optional, and the additional one-day guide and boat charges apply.
US guests arriving from Honolulu normally land mid-afternoon. After transferring to Ikari House, the group checks into air-conditioned ensuite rooms, assembles tackle and meets the host and guide team to review the fishing program.
SIX INCLUDED GUIDED DAYS · THURSDAY, APRIL 1 TO TUESDAY, APRIL 6
The hosted package includes six complete guided fishing days. Each morning begins with a cooked breakfast and coffee from 6am before the short journey to Ikari House’s nearby launching beach at 7am.
Trips to Korean Wreck and other reef locations can be arranged in advance.
THE DAILY FISHING PROGRAM
Ikari House operates its own fast fiberglass boats, allowing the guide team to move efficiently between hard-sand flats, coral edges, channels and more distant parts of Kiritimati’s immense lagoon.
Most fishing is conducted on foot after the boatman places each guide and pair of anglers onto the water selected for that day’s tide, wind, visibility and target species. Boats may move several times during the day as conditions change.
Standard guiding is based on two anglers sharing one guide and boat. Lunch and cold drinking water travel with the group, and guests normally return to Ikari House during the mid-to-late afternoon.
TARGET SPECIES
Bonefish are the principal day-to-day target and may be encountered as singles, pairs or moving schools. Giant and bluefin trevally patrol deeper channels, lagoon edges and areas holding bait, while triggerfish and milkfish provide demanding alternative opportunities.
Guests should keep suitable bonefish and giant trevally outfits ready throughout the day. Offshore fishing for tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi and larger trevally may be possible by prior arrangement when weather and ocean conditions allow.
IKARI HOUSE
Tackle can be rinsed and stored in the dedicated outdoor area, while daily room and laundry service helps anglers prepare for the following day.
Evening meals are served in the lagoon-side maneaba. For hosted trips, Isolation Outfitters also includes beer and wine with meals, fresh sashimi and occasional mantis shrimp when these are available locally.
A FULLY HOSTED WEEK
The trip is fully hosted by Isolation Outfitters and limited to a maximum of six anglers. We coordinate the group’s arrival, lodge stay, guide allocation and daily fishing program, while remaining available throughout the week to assist with equipment, logistics and any changes required by local conditions.
The US$4,450 hosted land package is fully inclusive once guests reach Christmas Island. It covers the scheduled airport transfers, seven nights at Ikari House, six guided fishing days, standard shared guiding and fast-boat transportation, meals, drinking water, daily laundry and the annual US$250 Kiritimati fishing license.
DEPARTURE · WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7
Guests completing the Ikari House week transfer to Cassidy International Airport for their scheduled departure.
Anglers flying to Honolulu cross the International Date Line eastbound and arrive in Hawaii on Tuesday, April 6, the previous calendar day. Onward connections from Honolulu must therefore be booked for Tuesday, preferably later in the afternoon or evening.
EXTEND TO FANNING ISLAND
Instead of returning home on April 7, anglers can continue to Fanning Island from April 7–14, creating the complete March 31–April 14 two-atoll itinerary.
The extension combines Ikari House’s comfortable lodge operation and immense Kiritimati lagoon with Fanning Island’s more remote accommodation and lightly pressured fishery. It is booked separately and remains subject to inter-island flights, lodge space and guide availability.

PLAN CAREFULLY AROUND THE INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE
Travel to Kiritimati (Christmas Island) begins with the weekly Fiji Airways service from Honolulu to Cassidy International Airport (CXI). Because this route operates only once each week, missing the flight could mean missing the entire trip.
Plan to arrive in Honolulu no later than Monday and stay overnight before the Tuesday departure. Do not attempt to connect into Honolulu on Tuesday morning. Arriving a day early provides essential protection against domestic delays, canceled flights and misplaced baggage.
Although the flight from Honolulu to Christmas Island takes only a few hours, it crosses the International Date Line. You depart Hawaii on Tuesday and land on Christmas Island on Wednesday.
The calendar works in reverse on the journey home. You depart Christmas Island on Wednesday morning, cross the International Date Line eastbound and arrive in Honolulu on Tuesday late morning – on the previous calendar day. Any onward flight from Honolulu should therefore be booked for Tuesday, preferably late afternoon or evening to allow a sensible connection margin.
Alternatively, stay overnight in Waikiki and continue home on Wednesday. If you choose that option, ask us for the Honolulu and Waikiki restaurant recommendations shared with us by local residents.

ARRIVAL, DEPARTURE AND THE DATE LINE
The Nadi service is currently expected to arrive on Christmas Island at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. These guests can transfer to Ikari House, have breakfast and add a full guided fishing day if desired. The additional one-day guide and boat charges apply. The International Date Line is equally important when planning your return. You depart Christmas Island for Honolulu on Wednesday but land in Hawaii on Tuesday, the previous calendar day. Book onward connections from Honolulu for Tuesday, preferably during the late afternoon or evening. Do not book them for Wednesday. Alternatively, stay overnight in Waikiki and continue home the following day.
SKILL LEVEL, TACKLE AND WADING
Expert saltwater experience is not required, but anglers should be able to cast confidently in variable wind and present weighted flies accurately. Bring suitable 7- to 9-weight outfits for bonefish, triggerfish and smaller trevally, together with 10- to 12-weight equipment for giant trevally.
Most lagoon fishing is conducted on foot after the boatman and guide place you onto the selected flat. Anglers should be comfortable wading over sand, coral and uneven terrain. Your final information pack will provide detailed recommendations covering rods, reels, lines, leaders, flies, footwear and personal equipment.
LICENSE, MONEY AND GRATUITIES
The annual US$250 Kiritimati fishing license is included in your hosted-trip fare. It remains valid for the calendar year in which it is issued, which is useful if you decide to return to Christmas Island later that year.
Bring Australian dollars in cash for gratuities. Gratuities for the Ikari House staff, fishing guides and boatmen are not included in the trip fare. Suitable cash denominations are recommended so that tips can be distributed directly at the end of the week.
WEATHER, CONNECTIVITY AND EMERGENCY SUPPORT
Christmas Island is close to the equator, with warm conditions throughout the year. Wind, intense sun and sudden rain squalls are normal. Pack high-quality sun protection, suitable flats clothing, a Buff, gloves, a wide-brimmed hat and spare hat, polarized glasses, a light rain jacket and secure wading footwear. Drinking water is carried during fishing days, but anglers must remain attentive to hydration.
Starlink is available at Ikari House. Isolation Outfitters also carries a Garmin inReach Mini 2 during the hosted week. In a serious medical emergency, we can contact Global Rescue or your nominated evacuation provider and help coordinate urgent transport. Appropriate emergency medical-evacuation cover is required.

Single rooms and private guide-and-boat arrangements may be requested at additional cost, subject to availability.
International and connecting flights, gratuities, personal fishing equipment, optional arrival-day fishing, specialist offshore arrangements, itinerary changes and travel insurance are not included.
