  • The sun rises at Costa de Cocos in Xcalak with Isolation Outfitters

    COSTA MAYA SLAM

    Destination: Xcalak, Costa Maya, Mexico
Dates: May 29-June 5, 2026 (Friday to Friday)
Focus: Permit, tarpon & bonefish, with bonus snook in the mix
Group size: Limited to six anglers

    Description:
This isn’t just another week in the tropics – it’s a shot at one of the most coveted saltwater tallies in the game: the Costa Maya Slam. We’ve lined everything up including the guides to give you the best odds possible.

Xcalak is as far south as you can go in Mexico without slipping into Belize. It’s a sleepy village surrounded by some of the most productive and least-pressured flats in the Caribbean. On one side, the sheltered expanse of Chetumal Bay; on the other, the barrier reef and endless turtlegrass shallows. This is prime country for all three Grand Slam species – and you can add snook to the scoreboard.

Our home for the week is Costa de Cocos (with restaurant and bar), where days start with fresh coffee and end with cold beer and stories worth repeating. All meals and open bar included. The skiffs are fast, the guides are sharp, and the fishing is the kind that keeps you up the night before.

Six full days on the water mean plenty of chances to find cruising permit, roll casts at tarpon in quiet mangrove creeks, and watch bonefish tail in shin-deep water.

Every day is a new set of plays, and with a small crew of anglers and your host Southflyfisher in the mix, you’ll fish smarter, laugh harder, and enjoy some of the best water in Mexico.

If you’ve ever wanted a Slam, this is the trip you don’t sit out. The fish are here. The tide is right. The question is – will you be in?

Costa Maya Slam Itinerary available now.

  • Tail Inn Lodge beachfront

    GRAND SLAM MEXICO

Destination: Espiritu Santo Bay, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Dates: June 5-12, 2026 (Friday to Friday)
Focus: Permit, tarpon & bonefish of course
Group size: Limited to five anglers – plus your host and local guide team

    Description:
This hosted expedition targets one of saltwater fly fishing’s most elusive trophies: the Grand Slam. We’ve picked the tides and the taste to maximise your chances.

Located in the southern reaches of the Yucatán Peninsula, Tail Inn Lodge sits in the remote village of Punta Herrero, perched on the edge of Espiritu Santo Bay. Protected as part of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, this fishery offers some of the Caribbean’s most pristine and least pressured saltwater flats.

Expect classic Grand Slam conditions: cruising permit on hard-bottomed flats, juvenile tarpon in quiet mangrove creeks, and bonefish tailing in ankle-deep water. With six full days on the water, your odds of ticking off all three in one day are real.

Grand Slam Mexico is not a resort-style trip – it’s based at a purpose-built fly fishing lodge with everything you need and nothing you don’t. That means less distractions, excellent guiding, and more time casting to targets.

Hosted by Southflyfisher, you’ll benefit from deep local insight, well-honed tackle tips, and a small crew of anglers just as obsessed as you.

Come ready to stalk tailing fish in wild, empty water – and maybe, just maybe, earn your Slam.

Grand Slam Mexico Itinerary available now.

  • Aerial view of a tropical atoll surrounded by deep blue ocean with white sandy beaches and turquoise shallow waters, with clouds above in a clear sky.

    AITUTAKI AUGUST 2026

Destination: Aitutaki, Cook Islands, South Pacific Ocean
    Dates: August 2026 (One week)
Focus: Trophy bonefish on idyllic South Pacific flats
Group size: Limited to four anglers - two guides and one host

    Description:
Aitutaki is the definition of remote tropical beauty – turquoise lagoons, white sand motus (islets), and flats so clear they look retouched. But beneath the postcard surface lies one of the most exciting and challenging bonefish fisheries in the world.

These aren’t schoolies. Aitutaki’s bonefish are big — routinely in the 6–10 lb range, with some pushing well into double digits. They’re powerful, wily, and often solitary. You’ll be hunting true trophies in gin-clear water, often with your heart pounding and backing already disappearing.

Our hosted trip to the beautiful atoll of Aitutaki is designed for experienced anglers who want to combine island time with serious flats fishing.

You’ll be based on the main island with access to expert local guides and skiffs that get you quickly to the prime flats. Between sessions, unwind with fresh island food, cold beer, and lagoon views that don’t quit.

This is a trip that pairs world-class fly fishing with full immersion into Pacific island life – all planned by the team at Isolation Outfitters and hosted by Southflyfisher.

Think of it as your tropical reset button... with tailing bones.

Full itinerary coming soon – expressions of interest now open.

GENERAL INFORMATION

CONSIDERING A HOSTED FLY FISHING EXPEDITION?

From trophy trout in southern Patagonia to saltwater Grand Slams in Mexico and on remote Pacific atolls, each hosted trip is curated to deliver unforgettable angling experiences in wild, remote locations.

We spend weeks working through each and every detail to make sure your experience is overwhelming positive. This includes packing extra gear (even glue for those Simms saltwater soles) and checking with the local stores to ensure they have fresh fruit in stock.

WHY TRAVEL WITH A HOST?

  1. An experienced leader from Isolation Outfitters (or outside our team if required).

  2. Ideal for individual anglers or pairs – book solo with confidence, knowing you'll join a like-minded group.

  3. Shared knowledge, gear advice, and on-the-ground support.

  4. Fully pre-arranged logistics, airline and lodge coordination.

  5. Our hosted groups are capped at 2-6 anglers, and no more than 1 guide to 2 anglers so you have more guided time on the water.

TRIP NOTES - 2025-2026

We are organising our busiest year of hosted freshwater and saltwater trips ever with eight hosted trips scheduled for 2025-2026.

Each hosted adventure is only available for between two and six lucky anglers so we recommend making your initial enquiry early to avoid disappointment.

We have two of our three hosted Skybound South (New Zealand heli-fishing) trips booked already. These New Zealand expeditions require advanced fitness, so feel free to discuss what destinations might best suit your level of comfort.

We organise all domestic travel, accommodation, meals, snacks and beverages, so let us know what you enjoy eating and drinking (and what’s not to your liking).

Isolation Outfitters works with premium angling brands to provide your fishing gear for these hosted trips. So for some of the hosted trips we run, you’ll be welcome to test out top-end rods, reels and matching lines from some of the best tackle manufacturers around the globe.

FARE PAYMENT

As for all our trips, the fare for our hosted expeditions wherever listed is in US Dollars (USD$) and will not change after confirmation of your booking, regardless of any fluctuations in international currency, fuel or travel costs. A detailed list of what is included is provided with your booking.

If you wish to pay in NZ Dollars (NZD$) to our New Zealand office, we will provide the rate in NZD$ using an accepted foreign currency rate, at the time of payment.

Credit Cards: Alternatively you may wish to pay by credit card. We accept most major international credit cards and can provide a link for online payments.

Remaining Fare: We require settlement of your full account 90 days before the trip proceeds. If you are an international visitor to the location of our hosted trip, proof of comprehensive travel insurance and any required medical or evacuation cover will be required when your account is settled and before the trip can commence.
