RIO MENENDEZ: MAR 28 - APRIL 4, 2027

HOSTED WEEK AT WUIJOOR LODGE: MARCH/APRIL 2027

Join our exclusive Prime Southern Patagonia hosted week and target trophy sea-run brown trout on the legendary Río Menéndez in Argentine Patagonia. Over six full days, this small-group adventure (maximum six anglers) is fully guided, with all logistics handled so you can focus on swinging flies in truly wild waters.

DESTINATION & RIVERS

The hosted week takes place on the southern reaches of the Río Grande system, fishing the Río Menéndez, the largest tributary of the Río Grande. This river offer a mix of medium to small water, classic holding pools, broad glides, intimate riffles, and technical challenges — ideal for both single-handed and switch rods. Expect crystal-clear, greenish water where short, sinking presentations are often required to reach trophy sea-run browns.

FISHING EXPERIENCE & TECHNIQUES

During the week, you’ll fish a variety of water types under the guidance of expert and experienced local guides. Techniques include switch (trout spey) casts on larger pools, precise short-line presentations in deep runs, and swinging weighted streamers or leeches. Trout regularly range 10–20+ lb, providing challenging, hard-fighting action for both experienced and first-time sea-run anglers. The majority of the river system is well suited to singled handed 8wt rods and WF floating lines running T7-T14 tips and short 20lb tippet.

If you don’t wish to use a double-handed rod for sea trout, the Rio Menendez is the perfect river to secure your trophy sea-run brown.

HOST & GROUP DETAILS

We will lead the week, bringing a selection of rods, lines, and gear for participants to try on the rivers. This hosted week is limited to six anglers, ensuring a personalized experience, small-group camaraderie, and maximum water access. Whether you’re looking to refine your technique or test new equipment, this is a rare opportunity in an iconic Patagonia setting.

ACCOMMODATION/MEALS

Guests stay at Wuijoor Lodge, a remote, comfortable estancia retreat. Rooms are shared with ensuite bathrooms, and all meals are included. Breakfasts are hearty. Expect bacon and eggs, and feel free to ask if you require a special menu. Snacks and drinks are packed for the riverside. Lunches are generally held back at the lodge and are substantial. Dinners showcase Patagonian flavors with local game, farm cuisine and exceptional Argentinean wines, providing the perfect end to a long day on the water.

GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommended gear includes a DH Trout Spey (11ft or so) with Scandi heads, fast sinking tips and polyleaders for low water conditions, or an 8 wt single-hand rod will suffice.

Flies should include leeches, white rubber-leg nymphs, and weighted streamers in black, olive, and purple. We’ll provide full packing lists, fly sections and more information upon booking confirmation. Bring fluorocarbon tippet (15–20 lb) and quality reels with plenty of backing. Additional ultra-premium rods, reels and lines will be available for trial during the hosted week.

Lunch is back at the lodge, followed by optional afternoon naps before heading out again until near sunset when fishing is at its prime. Late evenings are reserved for drinks, dinner, and shared stories of the day’s action.

GENERAL HOSTED WEEK INFORMATION

HOSTED TRIP ENQUIRIES

Please contact us by sending us a message via our Contact Form, or calling us to discuss availability at Wuijoor Lodge during this hosted week.

After your enquiry, we will share more trip information with you via email and phone, and discuss your fly fishing experience and understand what you’re looking for from this hosted trip.

If you wish to stay at Wuijoor Lodge during other weeks of the sea trout season, please contact us with your angler numbers and dates to check availability.

AIRLINE OPTIONS

Flying into Rio Grande Airport (RGA) from the United States requires you to land in Buenos Aires first, switch airports then take a domestic flight. Having a day/night in Buenos Aires to sort any jetlag, acquire some local currency (Blue Dolar) and enjoy a good steak and red wine will set you up for the week ahead.

Check internal flights with your travel agent early on as some flights to RGA depart in the early morning hours (2am or 3.30am at time of writing) so you’ll likely need to be at the airport at midnight.

CONNECTIVITY

All hosted trips with us include remote connectivity – so when you’re at the lodge or on the river, you’ll always have connectivity to the outside world (assuming that’s what you want!). You can message home, send messages to cellphones, and even message between teams on the river to keep up with the action.

MEDICAL COVER

In the event of a major medical emergency, we will have direct contact with the lodge and have procedures in place for urgent evacuation to the nearest medical centre. We recommend holding comprehensive cover with Global Rescue to cover any evacuation and medical costs and provide access to high quality medical support.

Starting July 1, 2025, Argentina has required all non-resident foreign tourists to hold travel medical insurance covering their entire stay, including coverage for accidents, illness, COVID-19, and emergency assistance. While some reports suggest it is not yet widely enforced, travelers should carry proof of coverage at all entry points. Global Rescue offers a simple policy and extensions for 14 days.

FARE PAYMENT

The fare for this hosted week is outlined on this page in US Dollars (USD$) and will not change after confirmation of your booking, regardless of any fluctuations in international currency, fuel or travel costs. A detailed list of what is included is provided with your booking. Individual anglers are invoiced separately or together as you wish.

Currency: Payment can be made in US Dollars (USD$), on receipt of our invoice, paid into our Montana USA deposit account or via credit card online. If you wish to pay in NZ Dollars (NZD$), we will agree a suitable foreign exchange rate into NZD$ from your preferred currency at the time of booking.

Credit Cards: Alternatively you may wish to pay by credit card. We accept most major international credit cards and can provide a link for online payments. Credit card surcharges will be charged onto your final balance account.

Deposit: A deposit of 50% of the fare is payable to confirm your booking. Payment of deposit is deemed acceptance of our Terms and Conditions.

Remaining Fare: We require settlement of your full account 90 days before the trip proceeds. If you are a visitor to Argentina, proof of comprehensive travel insurance and any required medical insurance may be required at this point.

Additional Travel or Tackle: We will arrange all road transfers from Rio Grande within the proposed cost. If you require transfer to Ushuaia (2.5 hours), please let us know and we can advise any additional cost for your travel. We can also provide premium fishing tackle, waders and wading boots for you to keep after the trip. Any costs for these will be invoiced directly to you and are payable before the trip commences. Any additional trip preferences, changes to the expedition travel, or specialist gear obtained on your behalf at your request will be payable on invoice.

SINGLE ANGLERS

Whilst our hosted lodge trips are set up for angling mates to enjoy, we can also accommodate single anglers. Please contact us to discuss this option.
