Tres Rios Casa de Campo occupies an exceptional position in northern Patagonia’s Collón Curá Valley, where the Chimehuín and Aluminé meet to form the Collón Curá. The lodge accommodates one private group of six to eight guests, with close access to all three rivers, four established float programs and approximately nine miles of private water on the lower Chimehuín.

For anglers familiar with New Zealand, the attraction will be immediately recognizable. Clear water encourages visual fishing, the trout are strong and beautifully conditioned, and careful presentation is rewarded. Tres Rios adds the scale and variety of Patagonia, combining drift-boat fishing and private wading water across the Chimehuín, Aluminé and Collón Curá - all from one intimate base.

This is fishing within a broader experience of Argentina: clear rivers, strong wild trout, open steppe, snowcapped volcanoes, working ranches and the lakes and forests surrounding San Martín de los Andes.

Tres Rios operates throughout the Patagonia trout season. For the strongest combination of favorable water temperatures, excellent fishing and a quieter regional experience, Isolation Outfitters recommends visiting in November, December or March/April.

2027 LODGE RATE

Independent lodge stays are US$1,200 per person per night in the March high season, based on double occupancy. This makes Tres Rios well suited to a three- or four-night stay before continuing south to Chubut.

HOSTED TRIP: MARCH 2027

Isolation Outfitters is considering a six-night hosted week at Tres Rios in March 2027, with five guided fishing days.

The proposed package is US$7,200 per angler, based on double occupancy and two anglers per guide and boat. Final dates and complete trip details will be published once planning and feasibility are confirmed.

ABOUT TRES RIOS CASA DE CAMPO

Tres Rios is a small, welcoming lodge in the Collón Curá Valley, approximately 45 minutes from San Martín de los Andes. It typically hosts one group at a time, generally six to eight guests, giving anglers privacy, a relaxed rhythm and a fishing program shaped around their priorities.

The main ranch house contains three guest rooms with private bathrooms. An adjacent stone cabin accommodates two additional guests. Traditional Patagonian stonework and red roofs give the property a strong sense of place, while its solar and wind systems support a comfortable off-grid stay.

THREE RIVERS, FOUR FLOAT PROGRAMS

The Chimehuín, Aluminé and Collón Curá are not variations on the same river. Each has its own scale, structure and fishing character, allowing the guides to match the day to water conditions, hatches and the ambitions of each angler.

THE CHIMEHUÍN

Tres Rios has access to approximately nine miles of private water on the lower Chimehuín. This clear, beautifully structured river offers riffles, glides, channels and banks where accurate presentation can be rewarded by strong wild brown and rainbow trout. Depending on the beat, days can combine floating with deliberate walk-and-wade fishing.

THE ALUMINÉ

The Aluminé brings classic Patagonian scale, with long drifts, varied currents and productive banks. Its changing character creates opportunities for dry flies, dry-dropper rigs, nymphs and streamers, while the boat provides an efficient way to cover water without rushing the fishing.

THE COLLÓN CURÁ

Formed by the meeting of the Chimehuín and Aluminé, the Collón Curá is a broad, powerful northern Patagonia river. Islands, side channels, riffles and sweeping banks create varied targets through the day, with both floating and wading opportunities.

HOW THE FISHING WORKS

Tres Rios offers four established float programs across the three rivers, supplemented by private walk-and-wade water, feeder creeks and side channels. The mix gives guides room to adjust for flows, temperature, wind, insects and angler preference.

Dry-fly fishing can include mayflies, caddis and larger terrestrial patterns. Dry-dropper rigs are highly effective, while nymphs and streamers remain important tools when conditions call for them. The lodge can provide fishing equipment, although experienced anglers may prefer to travel with familiar rods, reels and lines.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD & WINE

The main ranch house overlooks the Collón Curá Valley and features three spacious, well-appointed guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Its generous living area and intimate dining room are finished with a hand-distressed bar and exposed rafters crafted from local hardwoods. An adjacent stone house provides private accommodation for two additional guests.

Hospitality centers on the dining table. Gourmet meals showcase ingredients grown and raised in the Collón Curá Valley, accompanied by premium Argentine wines and traditional Patagonian asados. It is generous, thoughtful food that reflects the landscape surrounding the lodge.

Tres Rios combines this warmth with a considered approach to sustainability. The buildings were crafted from local stone and the property is powered by solar and wind energy. Fresh produce and ranch-raised ingredients further connect each stay, and each meal, to the valley.

SEASON & WHEN TO GO

Tres Rios operates throughout the Patagonia trout season, however Isolation Outfitters recommends targeting either November and December or the cooler conditions of March.

November and December bring early-summer fishing before the region enters its busiest vacation period. Water temperatures are favorable, insect activity is building and the three-river program gives guides flexibility as seasonal flows settle.

January and February coincide with Argentina’s main summer holiday season. San Martín de los Andes becomes a popular vacation destination for residents of Buenos Aires and other Argentine cities, bringing many more visitors to the region. The hottest part of summer can also warm the rivers and influence trout behavior, particularly during prolonged periods of high daytime temperatures.

March offers another excellent window. Cooler nights help moderate water temperatures, holiday traffic has eased and the rivers can provide clear, settled conditions well suited to dry flies, terrestrials and visual fishing.

Although trips can be arranged throughout the season, our first-choice periods for Tres Rios are November, December and March.

A TYPICAL FISHING WEEK

The lodge’s four float programs and private access make it possible to build a varied week without forcing a fixed daily itinerary. Guides select from the Chimehuín, Aluminé and Collón Curá according to flows, weather, insects and guest priorities.

A week may combine long drift-boat days, float-to-wade fishing, or full day wading if you prefer. Beyond the three principal rivers, our lodge guides can introduce anglers to other springs, feeder creeks, side channels and smaller tributaries within easy reach of the lodge, creating additional walk-and-wade and sight-fishing opportunities.

EXTEND YOUR NORTHERN PATAGONIA FISHING PROGRAM

Beyond the lodge’s three principal rivers, the wider region offers exceptional fishing on waters including the Malleo, Quilquihue, Filo Hua Hum, Traful and Limay.

Chapelco Airport (CPC) near San Martin de los Andes is approximately 45 minutes from the lodge by road. San Martín de los Andes is the natural gateway and an excellent place to add a night or two before or after fishing.

EXPLORING ARGENTINA

Tres Rios expands the range of Argentina programs available through Isolation Outfitters. Guests may arrive from Mendoza, travel from Bariloche, or continue north after fishing at one of our partner lodges around Esquel and Chubut.

Each route reveals a different side of Argentina, from wine country and high desert to glacial lakes, forested mountains and the open river valleys of Patagonia. A combined itinerary can link contrasting fisheries while keeping the journey coherent, with Isolation Outfitters handling the sequence, transfers and practical details.

NON-ANGLER EXPERIENCES

Tres Rios is well suited to mixed groups. Horseback rides can be tailored to different experience levels, from relaxed riverside outings to full-day journeys through ranch country. Guests can also experience gaucho traditions through an asado or, when available, activities connected with life on the estancia.

Beyond the ranch, options include hiking in Lanín National Park, exploring lakes and volcanic landscapes, scenic helicopter flights, swimming and time in the town of San Martín de los Andes. Programs can be customized around the interests and pace of each guest.

BOOKING & PAYMENT

The Saturday-to-Friday lodge rate is currently US$5,000 per angler. Once dates and room arrangements are confirmed, Isolation Outfitters will provide a detailed itinerary, current inclusions, invoice and payment schedule. A reservation is confirmed only after the required deposit is received.

SINGLE ANGLERS & PRIVATE GROUPS

Solo anglers, couples and private groups are welcome, subject to room and guide availability. The lodge is especially appealing for a private party of six to eight guests who want the house, hospitality and fishing program to themselves.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Argentina requires international visitors to hold health insurance covering their medical needs during their stay. Guests should travel with their policy certificate and emergency-assistance details readily available. Comprehensive travel insurance, including trip cancellation, interruption and medical-evacuation coverage, is also strongly recommended.
