Mauri, mauri!
Tabuaeran means “Heavenly Footprint”. This remote Kiribati atoll encloses a turquoise lagoon covering approximately 43 square miles, or 110 square kilometres. Kiribati is pronounced “ki·ree·bas”, while Kiritimati is pronounced “Christmas”.
One week: USD$5,100 per angler
Two weeks: USD$8,700 per angler
The 2027 tariff remains unchanged. These rates include the first night and meals on Christmas Island following your arrival on CXI; the final night on Christmas Island before departure, including meals; return Air Kiribati flights between Christmas Island and Fanning Island; all airport transfers; and your fishing licence.
A week on Christmas Island can also be arranged at Ikari House. Please request the combined rate. Tuesday and Thursday flights allow longer stays to be constructed when required.
Published rates remain subject to change for new bookings. Once a booking is confirmed, the quoted rate remains unchanged. Please review the full inclusions and exclusions and our Terms and Conditions of Service.
FLIGHTS, BAGGAGE AND CURRENCY
Air Kiribati operates the flight between Christmas Island and Fanning Island. Flying time is approximately one hour and 15 minutes. The current twice-weekly schedule provides same-day Fanning Island arrivals and departures on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The route also serves Washington Island.
Flights use a Twin Otter carrying a maximum of 19 passengers. Services can be disrupted by engineering or operational issues, pilot training and other circumstances outside our control. We remain in contact with airline officials through the lodge team and advise guests when new information becomes available.
Air Kiribati baggage restrictions are 15 lb (7 kg) for carry-on and 33 lb (15 kg) for checked in luggage. Bags are weighed at both airports and excess weight is charged in Australian dollars. Passengers and their carry-on bags are also weighed before departure from Fanning Island so be prepared for this.
A departure tax of AUD$20 cash per passenger is currently payable when leaving Fanning Island and remains subject to change. Bring sufficient Australian currency before leaving home. Honolulu Airport no longer has a foreign-exchange kiosk.
Australian dollars are accepted on Fanning Island and US dollars on Christmas Island. Credit cards cannot be used on Fanning Island. A small nearby shop sells snacks, soft drinks, toiletries and basic supplies. The ANZ ATM on Christmas Island requires a lengthy drive and can run out of cash, so it should not be relied upon.
BOOKINGS, GRATUITIES AND INSURANCE
Please contact Isolation Outfitters to enquire about future dates, reserve or amend a booking, or discuss any aspect of your trip. Confirmed guests receive a comprehensive packing list by email. Please ask us about anything not covered in the information provided.
Recommended guide gratuities are AUD$50 to AUD$100 per fishing day, with AUD$20 to AUD$40 for the boatman. These amounts can be divided between anglers sharing a guide and boat. Guides, boatmen and anglers rotate, so gratuities should be given at the end of each fishing day. Small plastic bags are useful for organising daily cash.
The suggested lodge-staff gratuity is AUD$20 per guest per day. Give the accumulated amount to the on-site host at the end of your stay. One member of a group can collect and present the combined staff gratuity.
Raise any concerns about guides, boats or the fishing program with our team or your on-site host as soon as possible. Alternative arrangements may be possible while you are still on the island.
Adequate medical-evacuation insurance is mandatory. We recommend a Global Rescue trip policy covering at least 14 days or an annual membership. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance with Cancel For Any Reason cover for illness, inability to travel, airline disruption, major world events and other circumstances affecting your trip.
