Sea-Run Giants Await – PRIME SOUTHERN PATAGONIA at Wuijoor Lodge
Wuijoor Lodge and Isolation Outfitters announce a second hosted trip to Argentina’s Río Grande’s largest tributary, the Rio Menendez, March 28 to April 04, 2027.
For anglers eager to chase some of Argentina’s most iconic sea-run brown trout based at Wuijoor Lodge, we proudly present our exclusive hosted expedition running March 28 – April 04 2027. With just five coveted spots available (some already reserved), this intimate trip offers access to the legendary Río Grande and its prime tributaries, the Menéndez and lower Río Ona rivers, in southern Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
If you can’t make this week, we also have a second (non-hosted) week open: March 07 – 14, 2027.
This is part of a series of hosted adventures into prime sea-run regions, planning and operated by Isolation Outfitters together with our three partner lodges in Southern Patagonia on the remote island of Tierra del Fuego.
FISH THE LEGENDARY RIO GRANDE AND PRISTINE TRIBUTARIES
Wuijoor Lodge sits on the private Estancia Laura, providing exclusive access to over 27 kilometers of some of the finest small to medium water on the Río Grande river system, fishing its tributaries, the Menéndez and lower Río Ona rivers. While the main Río Grande is famed worldwide for its trophy sea-run brown trout, the Menéndez River is where some of the largest migratory browns congregate, with fish regularly ranging from 7 to 15 pounds and trophies exceeding 20 pounds.
The lower Río Ona delivers a different but equally thrilling experience, with a mix of classic pools, broad glides, and intimate riffles perfect for single-handed casting, but you’re likely to spend your week working through the many pools and excellent holding water of the Menendez. Broken into three zones, this cold green-tinged water demands technical fishing: short sinking lines and precise fly placement to reach trout holding in deep, energy-conserving lies.
Resident brown and rainbow trout of up to 4 pounds also provide steady action in lighter riffles and on the inside of the bends, especially during calm weather – ideal for anglers seeking variety or honing nymph or even dry fly presentations.
EXPERT GUIDANCE AND PREMIUM TACKLE FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS
Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or embarking on your first sea-run brown trout adventure, Wuijoor Lodge’s experienced guides tailor the fishing experience to your level. A range of ultra-premium fly fishing gear will be available on-site for this hosted week, including 8–9 weight single handed rods rigged with weight forward floating and sinking heads, the essential sink tips (T-8 to T-14), plus smaller rods for calm days and smaller pools. Rods will be matched with top-quality reels (all with sealed drags), fluorocarbon leaders and tippets, plus we have a range of waders and boots to use, ensuring you’re fully equipped to make the most of this world-class fishery.
We will also have a range of flies available for our guests to provide feedback on. They will include rubber-leg nymphs (use white legs), and weighted streamers in black, olive, and purple – all matched to local hatch conditions. So bring your own but we’ll have a selection for you to try out including the mighty Stevie Wonder, named by our Isolation Outfitters founder and tied by expert local guide, Agus, specifically for the Rio Menendez.
JOURNEY TO THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
Some say that getting to Wuijoor Lodge is part of the adventure. For example, from Denver, Colorado, most anglers will:
Fly to Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE), where a night or two is highly recommended to overcome jetlag, exchange currency (including access to the ‘Dólar Blue’ rate), and indulge in Argentina’s legendary steak and Malbec wines if you wish.
From Buenos Aires, take a domestic flight to Río Grande Airport (RGA), departing in the early morning hours.
Upon arrival in Río Grande (flight lands 6.30am), you’ll be met by the lodge’s transfer team and embark on a scenic 55-minute drive to Wuijoor Lodge.
COMFORT AND CUISINE AMID PATAGONIAN WILDERNESS
Wuijoor Lodge accommodates up to six anglers in three heated double bedrooms – each with an ensuite bathroom and stunning valley views.
Daily life at the lodge is crafted around the fishing rhythm: hearty breakfasts, chef-prepared lunches back at the lodge, an afternoon siesta (necessary) and sumptuous dinners celebrating Patagonian ingredients, paired with local wines and fine whiskeys – or fresh juices if you prefer.
After mornings and evenings on the water, you’ll appreciate the lodge’s warm, relaxed atmosphere designed to foster camaraderie and storytelling among anglers.
