Río Menéndez Hosted Week, Argentina — Prime Patagonia, FEB 2026
PRIME PATAGONIA HOSTED WEEK
Join our exclusive Prime Patagonia hosted week and target trophy sea-run brown trout on the legendary Río Menéndez in Argentine Patagonia. Over six full days, this small-group adventure (maximum six anglers) is fully guided, with all logistics handled so you can focus on swinging flies in truly wild waters.
DESTINATION & RIVERS
The hosted week takes place on the southern reaches of the Río Grande system, including the Río Menéndez, Río Ona, and prime stretches of the lower Río Grande. These rivers offer a mix of large and small water, classic holding pools, broad glides, intimate riffles, and technical challenges — ideal for both single-handed and switch rods. Expect crystal-clear, greenish water where short, sinking presentations are often required to reach trophy sea-run browns.
FISHING EXPERIENCE & TECHNIQUES
During the week, you’ll fish a variety of water types under the guidance of expert and experienced local guides. Techniques include Spey and switch (trout spey) casts on larger pools, precise short-line presentations in deep runs, and swinging weighted streamers or leeches. Trout regularly range 10–20+ lb, providing challenging, hard-fighting action for both experienced and first-time sea-run anglers.
HOST & GROUP DETAILS
Southflyfisher will lead the week, bringing a selection of rods, lines, and gear for participants to try on the rivers. This hosted week is limited to six anglers, ensuring a personalized experience, small-group camaraderie, and maximum water access. Whether you’re looking to refine your technique or test new equipment, this is a rare opportunity in an iconic Patagonia setting.
ACCOMMODATION/MEALS
Guests stay at Wuijoor Lodge, a remote, comfortable estancia retreat. Rooms are shared with ensuite bathrooms, and all meals are included. Breakfasts are hearty and cooked to order, lunches are packed for the riverside, and dinners showcase Patagonian flavors with local wines, providing the perfect end to a long day on the water.
GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommended gear includes an 7-8 wt Double handed Spey rod (~13ft) with Skagit heads and sink tips (T-8 to T-14). A DH Trout Spey (11ft or so) with Scandi heads and polyleaders for low water conditions, or a 7–8 wt single-hand rod will suffice for smaller water.
Flies should include leeches, rubber-leg nymphs, and weighted streamers in black, olive, and purple. We’ll provide full packing lists, fly sections and more information upon booking confirmation. Bring fluorocarbon tippet (12–20 lb) and quality reels with plenty of backing. Additional ultra-premium rods, reels and lines will be available for trial during the hosted week.

Lunch is back at the lodge, followed by optional afternoon naps before heading out again until near sunset when fishing is at its prime. Late evenings are reserved for drinks, dinner, and shared stories of the day’s action.
We’ll relocate you back to Rio Grande Airport at the end of the week for an early Sunday flight back to Buenos Aires. We can assist you with a detour to Northern Argentina to chase golden dorado if time allows.

GENERAL HOSTED WEEK INFORMATION
TRIP ENQUIRIES
Please contact us by sending us a message via our Contact Form, or calling us to discuss availability at Wuijoor Lodge.
After your enquiry, we will share more trip information with you via email and phone, and discuss your fly fishing experience and understand what you’re looking for from this lodge trip.
We have a hosted trip in partnership with Southflyfisher, scheduled for Feb 22 to March 1, 2026. If this date aligns with your plans to fish the Rio Grande, please get in touch.
AIRLINE OPTIONS
Flying into Rio Grande Airport (RGA) from the United States requires you to land in Buenos Aires first, switch airports then take a domestic flight. Having a day/night in Buenos Aires to sort any jetlag, acquire some local currency (Blue Dolar) and enjoy a good steak and red wine will set you up for the week ahead.
Check internal flights with your travel agent early on as some flights to RGA depart in the early morning hours (2am or 3.30am at time of writing) so you’ll likely need to be at the airport at midnight.
SATELLITE PHONE/MESSAGING
All hosted trips with Southflyfisher include Iridium Satellite Telephone and Garmin InReach Mini 2 connectivity so when you’re at the lodge or on the river, you’ll always have connectivity to the outside world (assuming that’s what you want!). You can call home, send messages to cellphones, and even message between teams on the river to keep up with the action.
In the event of a major medical emergency, we will have direct contact with the lodge and have procedures in place for urgent evacuation to the nearest medical centre. We recommend holding comprehensive cover with Global Rescue to cover any evacuation and medical costs and provide access to high quality medical support.
FARE PAYMENT
The fare for this hosted week is outlined on this page in US Dollars (USD$) and will not change after confirmation of your booking, regardless of any fluctuations in international currency, fuel or travel costs.
