The complete itinerary begins with seven guided fishing days on Christmas Island, followed by the fixed weekly flight to Fanning Island for the second half of the journey. It brings together two very different Line Island fisheries within one carefully coordinated program.
On Christmas Island, guests stay at Ikari House, a beachfront base close to the daily boat launch. Fast fiberglass boats carry anglers into the immense lagoon for bonefish, giant and bluefin trevally, and triggerfish. Air-conditioned bedrooms, daily laundry and access to shops in London Village provide a comfortable first week before the group moves farther north.
On Thursday, April 8, the group takes the approximately 1 hour 15 minute flight from Christmas Island to Fanning Island, known locally as Tabuaeran. This 30-square-mile atoll sits barely 10 feet (3m) above sea level, has one weekly air connection and provides simple accommodation in traditional thatched huts at Fanning Island Lodge. Boats move anglers between tide-dependent areas, but most fishing is undertaken on foot across the flats.
Fishing begins on the arrival afternoon, continues through four full days and finishes with a final morning before the Tuesday afternoon flight back to Christmas Island. Fanning offers genuine opportunities for double-digit bonefish and giant trevally, alongside bluefin trevally, triggerfish and other species encountered across its lightly pressured lagoon.
The dates were selected around the moon phase and tides on both islands. The trip is limited to six anglers, normally fishing two anglers with one local guide. Isolation Outfitters hosts the group throughout, provides pre-trip flight and tackle guidance, and coordinates the inter-island transfer, accommodation and practical requirements that make this remote itinerary possible.
The full trip can be booked as a complete two-week journey or as a Fanning Island only week. Because the Fanning flight operates only once each week, the one-week Fanning program includes the necessary Christmas Island transit nights around the inter-island flight.

THE APRIL 2027 PROGRAM
TWO ATOLLS, DAY BY DAY
TRAVEL TO CXI · TUESDAY, MARCH 30
North American guests depart Honolulu at approximately 12:00 noon on the Tuesday Fiji Airways service to Christmas Island. After crossing the International Date Line, the flight lands at Cassidy International Airport at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Guests traveling from New Zealand or Australia connect through Nadi and normally arrive on Christmas Island early Wednesday morning.
TRIP DAY 1 · WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31
New Zealand and Australian guests arrive early and transfer to Ikari House in London Village. North American guests arrive during the afternoon and are met at the airport by the Ikari House team. Depending on the confirmed flight schedule, weather and available daylight, an optional short session on the flats may be possible.
TRIP DAYS 2–8 · THURSDAY, APRIL 1 TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7
Seven guided fishing days provide access to Christmas Island’s extensive lagoon flats. After breakfast, anglers make the short transfer to the launching beach and travel in Ikari House’s fast fiberglass boats. The daily program is planned around tide, wind and light, with bonefish as the foundation and opportunities for giant trevally, bluefin trevally and triggerfish. Packed lunches and cold drinking water travel with the boats. Ikari House provides air-conditioned ensuite rooms, daily room and laundry service, tackle storage and dedicated equipment-rinsing areas.
TRAVEL TO FANNING · THURS, APRIL 8
The group transfers to Cassidy International Airport for the weekly flight to Fanning Island, known locally as Tabuaeran. The flight takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and normally arrives during the late morning. Guests then transfer to Fanning Island Lodge, settle into the traditional beachfront buias and prepare their equipment before fishing during the afternoon.
Guests booking the Fanning Island-only program arrive on Christmas Island on Wednesday, April 7 and stay overnight before joining the group for Thursday’s flight to Fanning Island.
TRIP DAYS 10–13 · FRIDAY, APRIL 9 TO MONDAY, APRIL 12
Four complete fishing days explore Fanning Island’s lagoon flats, channels and reef edges. Local boats move anglers between tide-dependent fishing areas, but most fishing is conducted on foot. The principal targets are giant trevally and bonefish, with opportunities for triggerfish, bluefin trevally and bumphead parrotfish. Extended wading sessions, packed lunches and simple island-style dinners are central to the experience, and careful hydration is essential in the equatorial heat.
Together with two half days on arrival afternoon and final Tuesday morning, these four full days form the complete Fanning Island fishing program.
TRIP DAY 14 AND RETURN TRAVEL · TUESDAY, APRIL 13 TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14, 2027
Tuesday begins with a final morning fishing session before the afternoon flight back to Christmas Island. The group transfers to its overnight accommodation for a shower, evening meal and preparation for the onward journey.
Honolulu-bound guests normally depart early Wednesday and arrive in Hawaii on Tuesday after recrossing the International Date Line.
Nadi-bound guests depart later and may have time for an optional final session on Paris Flat when the confirmed flight schedule permits. They continue from Fiji to New Zealand or Australia, normally arriving on Thursday, April 15.
INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM
The complete program includes the accommodation specified in the itinerary at Ikari House, Fanning Island Lodge and the required Christmas Island transit accommodation; return flights between Christmas Island and Fanning Island; airport, lodge and inter-island transfers; meals, drinking water, soft drinks and snacks; and guided fishing with boats, normally based on two anglers sharing one guide.
NOT INCLUDED
The published rate does not include international flights to or from Christmas Island, fishing licenses, alcoholic beverages, tips and gratuities, personal fishing equipment, single-room upgrades, optional activities, additional transfers or comprehensive travel insurance.
BOOKING AND PREPARATION
Rates are quoted in US dollars per angler and are based on shared accommodation. A 50% deposit confirms the reservation, with the remaining balance due 90 days before departure. The confirmed trip rate remains fixed after the deposit has been received. Single anglers are welcome, with room and guiding arrangements confirmed before booking.
Each angler receives a detailed information pack covering confirmed flights and transfers, packing and tackle recommendations, medical and travel-insurance requirements, gratuities, currency and practical advice for both islands.
Comprehensive travel insurance is recommended and suitable emergency medical-evacuation cover such as from Global Rescue is mandatory for this trip.

SKILL AND DIFFICULTY
Difficulty 8/10. Expert saltwater experience is not required, but anglers should cast confidently in wind, handle weighted flies and heavier rods, and be comfortable wading sand, coral and uneven lagoon terrain.
HOSTING AND CONNECTIVITY
Isolation Outfitters hosts the group throughout. Starlink is available on Fanning Island, and the hosting team carries a Garmin inReach Mini 2.
PAYMENT AND INSURANCE
A 50% deposit confirms the booking. The balance is due 90 days before departure. Comprehensive travel insurance with emergency medical-evacuation cover is recommended.

This particular Fanning Island and Christmas Island itinerary is exclusively available through Isolation Outfitters. It combines seven guided fishing days based at Ikari House with the weekly flight to Fanning Island Lodge, where the group fishes the arrival afternoon, four complete days and a final morning.
What makes this trip difficult to arrange independently is not the distance alone. International arrivals, the single weekly inter-island flight, accommodation on both atolls and the required Christmas Island transit nights must operate as one connected program. We coordinate those movements and host the six-person group throughout.
The contrast between the islands is central to the experience. Christmas Island provides air-conditioned ensuite rooms, fast fiberglass boats, daily laundry and an established lodge operation. Fanning Island is deliberately simpler, with traditional beachfront buias, local boats and extended wading sessions across its lightly pressured lagoon.
The dates have been selected around the moon phase and tides on both islands. Anglers can pursue bonefish, giant and bluefin trevally, triggerfish and other flats species across two distinct fisheries without having to assemble the connections themselves.
TRAVEL, PREPARATION AND BOOKING

TRIP ENQUIRIES AND FLIGHTS
Contact Isolation Outfitters with your preferred itinerary, either the complete two-week program or the Fanning Island week only, together with your departure city, saltwater experience and room requirements. We will confirm availability and discuss the trip by phone or email before issuing the itinerary and deposit invoice. We will also confirm the recommended Fiji Airways connections and the Christmas Island transfer sequence. The inter-island service has restricted baggage capacity, and additional weight may be charged locally.
SKILL LEVEL AND TACKLE
You do not need to be an expert saltwater fly angler. Your host and local guides will assist throughout the trip, but proficient casting is required. You should be able to present weighted flies in wind using 7- to 9-weight and 10- to 12-weight single-handed rods with saltwater fly lines. Anglers should also be comfortable with extended wading over sand, coral and uneven lagoon terrain. The final information pack includes separate tackle, fly and packing recommendations for Christmas Island and Fanning Island.
WEATHER AND PACKING
Conditions close to the equator remain warm, typically around 80°F (27°C), but wind and sudden rain squalls are common. Pack a light rain jacket and a warm hoodie or vest for fast-boat travel. Strong sun protection is essential, including sunscreen, suitable fishing clothing, a Buff, gloves, a wide-brimmed hat and a spare, plus lip balm. Drinking water is carried during fishing days, and anglers must remain attentive to hydration throughout long sessions on the flats.
CONNECTIVITY AND EMERGENCY SUPPORT
Starlink is available on Fanning Island and at Ikari House. Isolation Outfitters also carries a Garmin inReach Mini 2 throughout the hosted trip, allowing essential messages or calls when required. In a serious medical emergency, the team can contact Global Rescue or the angler’s nominated evacuation provider directly and help coordinate urgent transport to Christmas Island and onward to the nearest suitable medical center.
BOOKING AND PAYMENT
The trip rate is quoted in US dollars and becomes fixed when your reservation is confirmed by the 50% deposit, regardless of later currency, fuel or travel-cost changes. The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure. Payment can be made through a secure link by major credit card, ACH or electronic transfer, or by wire to our US deposit account. Australian and New Zealand anglers may request payment in New Zealand dollars using the exchange rate applied by our payment platform. Payment of the deposit constitutes acceptance of our terms and conditions.
INSURANCE, ROOMING AND ADDITIONS
Comprehensive travel insurance is recommended and appropriate emergency medical-evacuation cover is required. The published rate is based on two anglers sharing a room. Single rooms at Ikari House may be requested at a revised fare, subject to availability, or a solo angler may share with another willing solo guest. Additional transfers, itinerary changes, optional activities or specialist fishing equipment arranged on your behalf are invoiced separately and must be paid before departure.
