SAMPLE ITINERARY (SUNDAY TO SUNDAY)

  • Travel Day (Friday): Arrive Rarotonga. Overnight near airport.

  • Day 1 (Saturday): Transfer to Aitutaki late morning. Half day guiding available to familiarize.

  • Day 2 (Sunday) is every guides day off to spend with family and go to church (strong cultural beliefs).

  • Day 3–7 (Mon–Fri): Five consecutive days of guided fly fishing across the lagoon flats, reef edges, and channels. Each day includes packed lunches with evening dining back at the lodge. US anglers depart Friday late afternoon to Rarotonga.

  • Travel Day (Saturday): Australia/NZ anglers have a final morning in Aitutaki, return flight to Rarotonga. US anglers connect to international departure 12.35pm on Saturday, arriving Honolulu at 6.30pm.

EXCLUDES

  • International flights to/from Rarotonga via Honolulu, Auckland, or Sydney

  • Alcoholic beverages over-charges (beyond our reasonable consumption guidelines)

  • Fishing licenses (paid locally on Aitutaki)

GETTING TO AITUTAKI

Important: From April 24, 2026, Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines has adjusted the Honolulu-Rarotonga weekly route from Saturday in/Sunday out to Friday in/Saturday out.

Access:

US anglers: Fly Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu (HNL) to Rarotonga (RAR), arriving Friday evening 10.55pm. Stay overnight Rarotonga.
NZ & Australian anglers: Fly Air New Zealand daily into Rarotonga via Auckland.
Enjoy a short 50-minute Air Rarotonga flight to Aitutaki the following morning.

AITUTAKI ACCOMMODATION

Isolation Outfitters works with a high quality hotel in Rarotonga for your arrival and departure hotel accommodation. The hotel provides shuttle access from and to Rarotonga Airport.

On Aitutaki, we have secured excellent quality, air-conditioned beachfront bungalow accommodation (twin share or single occupancy upgrade) on Aitutaki with unfettered beachfront access. The adjoining restaurant is our base for breakfasts and dinners. Your packed lunches will accompany the boats & guides, along with the cold drinks and snacks arranged by us during your week.

  • International access via Honolulu, Auckland, or Sydney into Rarotonga

  • 50-minute return domestic flight from Rarotonga to Aitutaki included with our trips

  • Fishing licenses can be purchased locally

We will share more trip information with you via email and phone to discuss this adventure, answer your questions and understand more about your saltwater fly fishing experience and what you’re looking for from this trip.

SKILL LEVEL

You do NOT need to be an expert saltwater fly angler to enjoy this trip. Your guide will assist you throughout the trip to spot fish, advise on casting and with fly selection. Being able to cast proficiently is a prerequisite to all saltwater fly fishing though. You should be able to cast bonefish flies into wind with your 7-9 weight single handed rod and use a 10-12 weight single handed rod if you are pursuing the numerous giant trevally that frequent the lagoon.

WEATHER

Aitutaki enjoys a consistently warm, tropical climate year-round, with daytime temperatures hovering around 77–84°F (25–29°C). Trade winds are common across the lagoon, and brief rain showers can roll through without warning, usually passing quickly.

A light rain jacket is essential, along with a hoody or vest for breezy boat rides between fishing spots. Sun protection is equally critical: bring reef-safe sunscreen, quality sun-protective clothing, a Buff and gloves, a wide-brimmed hat (plus a backup cap), and lip balm with SPF. We’ll keep plenty of cold water in the chilly bin to help you stay hydrated during long days on the flats.

CONNECTIVITY

Aitutaki has WiFi at the bungalows so you can access the outside world as much (or as little) as you choose to. There is cellular roaming coverage in Aitutaki and Rarotonga via Vodafone.

In the event of a major medical emergency, your guide will contact the lodge who has direct contact with Global Rescue (or whomever you are insured with) for urgent evacuation to Rarotonga and beyond. We provide an emergency contact list to the lodge for all clients.

FARE PAYMENT

The fare for this expedition is outlined on this page in US Dollars (USD$) and will not change after final confirmation of your booking (confirmed by receipt of your deposit payment to Isolation Outfitters), regardless of any fluctuations in international currency, fuel or travel costs. A detailed list of what is included is provided with your booking confirmation. Individual anglers are invoiced separately or together as you wish.

Currency: Payment can be made in US Dollars (USD$) into our Montana USA deposit account or our New Zealand bank account as you choose. If you wish to pay in NZ Dollars (NZD$), we will agree a suitable foreign exchange rate into NZD$ from your preferred currency at the time of booking.

Credit Cards: Alternatively you may wish to pay by credit card. We accept most major international credit cards and can provide a link for online payments.

Deposit: A deposit of 50% of the fare is payable to confirm your booking. Payment of deposit is deemed acceptance of our Terms and Conditions.

Remaining Fare: We require settlement of your full account 90 days before the trip proceeds. All anglers should strongly consider comprehensive travel insurance and any required medical insurance as part of sensible trip planning.

Additional Travel or Tackle: We can arrange additional sightseeing trips, or offshore fishing, and provide fishing gear for you to retain after the trip is completed. Any costs for these will be invoiced directly to you and are payable before the trip commences. Any additional trip preferences, changes to the expedition travel, or specialist gear obtained on your behalf at your request will be payable on invoice.

SINGLE ANGLER EXPEDITIONS

This Aitutaki atoll destination is priced either for two anglers sharing a twin room (plus guide and boat). However if you are a single angler, we have provided a rate for the same itinerary – but with single room occupancy, and 1:1 guide/boat to angler ratio.
