Pacific Islands fly fishing expeditions

BONEFISH, GT’S AND THOSE TRIGGERS

  • Angler from Isolation Outfitters wearing a blue hoodie, sunglasses, and a cap holding a large fish in shallow water under a partly cloudy sky.

    PACIFIC ISLAND DESTINATIONS

From Christmas Island to remote Fanning, or Aitutaki in the Cook Island, join our small group saltwater fly fishing expeditions to remote Pacific Island atolls to pursue Bonefish, Bluefin Trevally, Giant Trevally, Triggerfish, and Parrotfish.

New locations are progressively coming on stream including Aitutaki in the Cook Islands in 2026, Anaa Atoll in French Polynesia, and a further Pacific atoll that we can’t name.

Please consider our hosted trip program: We have a two week trip planned for April 2026 in Fanning Island + CXI, and our newly listed Aitutaki Adventure will run in August 2026 for six lucky anglers. Get in quick for these two epic trips.

  • Fanning Island Thatched Huts

    FOCUS ON FANNING

Getting to Fanning Island is an adventure in itself. Once you’re there, the flats fly fishing is truly world class.

Expect double-digit Bonefish, monstrous Giant Trevally, frustrating Triggerfish and other prized species – all on the fly, all wading. We manage all the logistics (and this remote and rustic island requires plenty of planning!). We ship additional meat, snacks, drinks and extra treats for the locals from our New Zealand base to CXI in advance of your trip, and plenty more behind the scenes to make this hosted trip successful.

Fish endless flats across an unforgettable island atoll with Isolation Outfitters. Our next Fanning Island Hosted Trip is scheduled for April 1-7, 2026.

  • Epic's new 8wt titanium Ti Series fly rod on Paris Flat at Christmas Island

    KIRITIMATI - CHRISTMAS ISLAND

New to saltwater fly fishing? Book a week on Christmas Island staying at Ikari House and chasing Bonefish and Giant Trevally with Isolation Outfitters. If you need advice on any aspect of this trip, please drop us a line.

We’ll advise on the best guides and talk directly with them to ensure they’re ready for you on arrival. We can book the fast boats (so you beat the other lodges to the best flats), arrange mantis shrimp and coconut treats during your stay, and help you unravel the travel logistics and flight timetable to get you to Kiritimati.

This is an unforgettable flats adventure at one of the best saltwater destinations on Planet Earth.

  • beachfront restaurants and accommodation on stunning Aitutaki Atoll in the Cook Islands

    AITUTAKI, COOK ISLANDS

Aitutaki is often referred to as the most beautiful atoll on earth. Whilst a favorite of honeymooners, Aitutaki was seemingly designed for saltwater fly anglers to stalk large bonefish and chase giant trevally on the reef edges and across the white sand flats.

We can handle your travel logistics to Aitutaki through Rarotonga, book island accommodation, arrange meals and shuttle transfers, guides and boats.

For anglers new to Aitutaki, we recommend our August 16-23, 2026 hosted trip. Register your interest to avoid disappointment.

PACIFIC ISLANDS – HOSTED TRIPS

  • A tropical scene with palm trees, thatched roof huts, and a group of people walking in an outdoor area.

THE LAST FLATS: FANNING & CXI

    Destination: Christmas & Fanning Islands
Dates: April 1–14, 2026 (Two weeks)
Focus: Big bonefish and giant trevally
Group size: Limited to six anglers

    Description:
This is the ultimate bucket list expedition for committed saltwater fly anglers.

The Last Flats takes you deep into the South Pacific – first to the well-loved bonefish haven of Christmas Island (Kiritimati), where you’ll sharpen your flats game across CXI’s legendary coral edges and pancake white flats. Then, it’s off to the rarely visited, wildly remote Fanning Island (Tabuaeran) – a frontier fishery where double-digit bonefish, powerful giant trevally, and unpredictable triggerfish patrol untouched waters.

Over two unforgettable weeks, you’ll explore vast, under-pressured flats alongside a small group of like-minded anglers. Hosted by experienced fly angler and gear tester Southflyfisher, the journey is fully planned, logistically smoothed, and all about maximizing your time on the water – from classic bonefish sight-fishing to adrenaline-fueled GT encounters.

This is not your average lodge trip. It’s two weeks off the beaten track, where solitude, exploration, and monster fish converge. Spots are limited.

  • Aerial view of a tropical atoll surrounded by deep blue ocean with white sandy beaches and turquoise shallow waters, with clouds above in a clear sky.

    AITUTAKI: AUGUST 2026

Destination: Aitutaki, Cook Islands, South Pacific Ocean
Dates: August 16-23, 2026 (One week)
Focus: Trophy bonefish on idyllic South Pacific flats
Group size: Limited to five anglers - two guides and one host

    Description:
Aitutaki is the definition of remote tropical beauty – turquoise lagoons, white sand motus (islets), and flats so clear they look retouched. But beneath the postcard surface lies one of the most exciting and challenging bonefish fisheries in the world.

These aren’t schoolies. Aitutaki’s bonefish are big — routinely in the 6–10 lb range, with some pushing well into double digits. They’re powerful, wily, and often solitary. You’ll be hunting true trophies in gin-clear water, often with your heart pounding and backing already disappearing.

Our hosted trip to the beautiful atoll of Aitutaki is designed for experienced anglers who want to combine island time with serious flats fishing.

You’ll be based on the main island with access to expert local guides and skiffs that get you quickly to the prime flats. Between sessions, unwind with fresh island food, cold beer, and lagoon views that don’t quit.

This is a trip that pairs world-class fly fishing with full immersion into Pacific island life – all planned by the team at Isolation Outfitters and hosted by Southflyfisher.

Think of it as your tropical reset button... with tailing bones.
