Isolation Outfitters Partners with Xcalak Paradise Fly Fishing Lodge

WE’VE PARTNERED WITH XCALAK PARADISE FLY FISHING LODGE

Some destinations simply feel right from the moment you arrive. Xcalak is one of them.

Tucked away on Mexico's Caribbean coast, just north of the Belizean border, this sleepy fishing village has quietly earned a reputation as one of the world's finest destinations for permit, bonefish and tarpon on fly. While much of the Yucatán has become increasingly developed, Xcalak remains refreshingly authentic.

So when we were invited to visit the newly completed Xcalak Paradise Fly Fishing Lodge, we knew we had to see it for ourselves. We weren't disappointed.

Purpose-built for traveling fly anglers, the lodge strikes a wonderful balance between modern comfort and the relaxed atmosphere that makes Xcalak so special.

Four spacious twin-share rooms, each with private ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning, opening onto a central courtyard featuring a beautiful swimming pool, open bar and inviting communal spaces where the day's stories inevitably become bigger with every round of margaritas.

The hospitality is equally impressive. The kitchen showcases fresh local produce through beautifully presented Yucatán and Mayan-inspired cuisine, while breakfasts are designed to fuel long days on the flats and simple lunches are enjoyed aboard the skiffs. After a full day chasing fish, it's hard to imagine a better way to unwind than with a cold drink by the pool before dinner with fellow anglers.

Of course, the lodge is only half the story.

THE FISHING

Xcalak's real attraction has always been the fishing.

The vast turtle-grass flats and channels of Chetumal Bay provide exceptional sight fishing for permit and bonefish throughout the year, while resident tarpon, snook, barracuda and jack crevalle ensure there is never a shortage of opportunities. Local guides fish according to tides, weather and fish movements, making every day different and rewarding.

For us, however, May is particularly exciting.

Each year, larger migratory tarpon move along this stretch of coastline, creating the opportunity to combine technical permit fishing with shots at powerful silver kings. It's one of the few places where an angler can spend the morning stalking a tailing permit across ankle-deep water before searching the coastline for rolling migratory tarpon later the same day.

TWO HOSTED WEEKS

It's exactly why we've chosen May 2027 for the first of our hosted weeks at this new lodge.

In 2027 we are hosting two exclusive departures — 15–22 May and 22–29 May — with both weeks limited to just six keen anglers each. These weeks are designed for those who want more than lodge accommodation. We'll meet you on arrival in Cancún or Tulum, coordinate every transfer, help with tackle and fly selection, share what we've learned about the fishery, and enjoy the week alongside you both on and off the water. (We also suggest a couple of extra days in Holbox before your flight home …)

WANT TO JOIN US HERE?

Whether you're chasing your first permit, searching for a migratory tarpon, or simply looking to experience one of the Caribbean's last lightly pressured saltwater fisheries, we'd love you to join us.

We've spent a long time looking for the right partner in southern Mexico, and we genuinely believe we've found one. Xcalak Paradise Fly Fishing Lodge delivers exactly what we're looking for: exceptional guiding, outstanding hospitality and trusted access to one of the finest flats fisheries anywhere in the Caribbean.

We can't wait to introduce you to it.
