HOSTED WEEK DATES
Lodge Opening Week: Feb 1-8, 2026
The Sea-Run Sessions – Rio Grande: Feb 8-15, 2026
DESTINATION & RIVER
Las Segadas Lodge sits high on the upper Río Grande in Chilean Tierra del Fuego, just above the Argentine border. This remote stretch is almost entirely unfished as it has been private no-access property for many decades. Isolation Outfitters has been working along side the estancia owner for the past few years and has secured exclusive access to Estancia Las Segadas, giving our small groups rare access to pools, riffles, and long runs that will see virtually no angling pressure beyond our guests.
The Río Grande is legendary for producing some of the largest migratory brown trout in the world — sea-runs that average 7–12 lb, with frequent fish over 15 lb and the real possibility of a 20+ lb trophy. Clear water, dramatic steppe scenery, and total solitude make this one of Patagonia’s most extraordinary settings. We’re thrilled to be able to offer you this unique experience.
FISHING & TECHNIQUES
Over six full fishing days, you’ll fish a mix of classic broad pools, undercut banks, shallow glides, and technical runs. Morning and evening sessions are prime, with changing light and conditions bringing fish into position.
Techniques include:
Two-handed Spey casting with Scandi setups on the broader reaches
Trout Spey or single-hand rods for more intimate holding water
Swinging leeches, intruders (evenings) and smaller rubber-leg nymphs during the day, in the deeper pools, often with short, sinking presentations to reach the strike zone
Sight fishing opportunities when conditions allow, especially in low, clear water
This is challenging, technical fishing, but also incredibly rewarding. Every hook-up is a battle with a powerful sea-run brown in moving water.
ACCOMMODATION & MEALS
Las Segadas Lodge has been refurbished over the past few months, especially for our angling guests – with thought given to changing in wet weather, drying waders and jackets, rod storage and the wine selection. The estancia homestead comprises four comfortable double rooms (all with ensuite bathrooms), a fifth double bedroom for overflow, a central lounge, and a dining room overlooking the steppe. The atmosphere is relaxed and social — evenings will be spent by the fire with local wines or whisky, sharing stories.
Meals feature hearty Patagonian cooking — grilled meats, fresh vegetables, and regional specialties — designed to fuel long fishing days. Breakfasts are cooked to order, riverside lunches keep you energized, and we’re planning dinners that celebrate the best of southern Chilean cuisine, matched with local wines for those that choose to partake.
GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS
Please note that the Rio Grande and major tributaries on the estancia are single hook, barbless flies from the start of the 20025/2026 season. We recommend:
DH Trout Spey (4wt, 11 ft) – this will likely be your most used rod for the estancia
7–8wt double-handed Spey rod (~13 ft) if you wish, but not necessary in this smaller water
7–8wt single-hand rod for calmer days
5-6wt for the spring creeks and smallest of streams
Leaders & tippet: Fluorocarbon 12–20 lb for the RG, and 2-4X for resident fish
A full packing and fly list will be provided on registration covering all personal gear and tackle.

ITINERARY OVERVIEW
Arrival is scheduled for Sunday, with transfers arranged from Punta Arenas and Pampa Guanaco airstrip. Depending on connections, guests may settle in that evening or begin fishing the following morning. Please read the broader itinerary on our Las Segadas Lodge page.
Fishing runs Monday through Saturday (plus half a day on the final Sunday), with six full days on the Río Grande and tributaries, Rio Chico, Rio Blanco, and on other estancia streams as you choose, together with your guide. Days start early with fresh coffee and cooked breakfast, and guides are ready by 7:30 am with tackle and lunches packed. Riverside lunches keep you on the water during prime fishing hours. While the option remains to return to the lodge for a break if conditions call for it, you’re welcome to push through the day, particularly if sight fishing the tributaries. There’s an evening session on the Rio Grande – often the most productive time of the day to fish this water. There’s also a secret stream with large (5-6lb) brook trout to entertain you for one day of your stay.
Evenings are spent over drinks, appetisers, and multi-course dinners built around Patagonian flavors and fine Chilean wines. Each night, guides and anglers review water conditions, select beats, and fine-tune strategy for the next day. Departure transfers are arranged after breakfast on the final Sunday for those traveling by road, but if flying from Pampa Guanaco, you can fish until 3pm. We have options to extend your stay a further week elsewhere in Chile or Argentina – just ask for recommendations.

GENERAL INFORMATION
HOSTED TRIP ENQUIRIES
Please contact us by sending us a message via our Contact Form or email/call us to discuss availability at Las Segadas Lodge for these two February hosted weeks, or for bookings for the remainder of February or March 2026.
After your enquiry, we will share more trip information with you via email and phone, discuss your fly fishing experience and understand what you’re looking for from this lodge trip.
TRAVELING TO LAS SEGADAS LODGE
Anglers fishing the Chilean side of the Rio Grande typically fly into Santiago International Airport (SCL) and transfer down to Punta Arenas (PUQ). We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your overnight accommodation before a morning ferry ride over to Porvenir on the island of Tierra del Fuego and a drive of approximately three hours south to the estancia and Las Segadas Lodge. For the hosted weeks, we have ensured capacity on the Punta Arenas to Pampa Guanaco leg for our groups. Please talk to us early if you are considering either hosted week as we may be able to assist you with planning.
OPTION: FLY PUNTA ARENAS TO AERODROMO PAMPA GUANACO
As an additional option to the longer ferry/vehicle transfer, we have arranged 45 minute return flights for up to 7 anglers from Punta Arenas into Aerodromo Pampa Guanaco (DPB), a small airport only 45 mins drive from the estancia.
Punta Arenas – Pampa Guanaco departs 6:00PM Sunday going in.
Pampa Guanaco – Punta Arenas departs 7:00PM Sunday leaving the lodge.
FLYING VIA ARGENTINA
Remember you’re flying into Chilean Patagonia, not Argentina as for the lodges lower down the river. The upper Rio Grande is situated on the western side of Tierra del Fuego in Chile.
If you are flying from Buenos Aires, our advice is to fly over to Santiago International Airport (SCL) and same day transfer down to Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ).
We strongly recommend NOT flying to either Rio Grande Airport or Ushuaia Airport and running the gauntlet trying to cross the Bellavista customs border passage by road. There have been difficulties crossing from Argentina into Chile and we want your stay with us to start in the best possible way! Trust us on this.
SINGLE ANGLER OCCUPANCY
Las Segadas Lodge is set up to accommodate angling groups of up to six with double bedrooms but we can often accommodate a single angler in a private or shared room as we have five bedroom in the homestead. Please contact us to discuss this option if you would prefer single occupancy.
FARE PAYMENT
The fare for this expedition is outlined on this page in US Dollars (USD$) and will not change after confirmation of your booking, regardless of any fluctuations in international currency, fuel or travel costs. A detailed list of what is included is provided with your booking. Individual anglers are invoiced separately or together as you wish.
Payments: Payment are made to Isolation Outfitters in US Dollars (USD$) on receipt of invoice and a secure payment link. You can pay via Electronic Funds Transfer (ACH in USA/Canada) or wire transfer into our US deposit account. For Australian and New Zealand anglers, you can choose to pay in NZD$ at the US–NZ exchange currency rate used by our payment platforms.
Credit Cards: We accept most major international credit cards and provide a link for online payments.
Deposit: A deposit of 50% of the fare is payable to confirm your booking. Payment of deposit is deemed acceptance of our Terms and Conditions.
Remaining Fare: We typically require settlement of your full account 90 days before the trip proceeds. If you are a visitor to Chile, we strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance and any requisite medical insurance or evacuation cover at this point.
Additional Travel or Tackle: We can arrange road or air transfers, and provide fishing gear for you to keep after the trip. Any costs for these will be invoiced directly to you and are payable before the trip commences. Any additional trip preferences, changes to the expedition travel, or specialist gear obtained on your behalf at your request will be payable on invoice.
INSURANCE/EVACUATION COVER
In the event of a riverside medical emergency, we will have direct contact with the lodge and have procedures in place for urgent evacuation to the nearest medical centre. We strongly recommend holding comprehensive travel insurance as well as cover with Global Rescue to cover any evacuation and medical costs and provide access to high quality medical support.
