FANNING ISLAND & CXI
APRIL 2026: REMOTE SALTWATER TRIP WITH ISOLATION OUTFITTERS
Just 30 square miles in size and barely 3 metres above sea level, Fanning Island in Kiribati is one of the most remote fly fishing destinations on earth. Primitive and raw, this stunning atoll offers only the most basic accommodation—simple thatched huts, minimal cooking facilities, and weekly plane access.
But what it does offer in abundance is truly world-class flats fly fishing.
Expect double-digit Bonefish, monstrous Giant Trevally, aggressive Bluefin Trevally, and other prized species – all on the fly, all wading. Fish endless flats up to 10 hours a day, for 12+ days, across two unforgettable islands.
FANNING PLUS CHRISTMAS, EXCLUSIVE TO ISOLATION OUTFITTERS
In early April 2026, six lucky anglers will first spend a week on Christmas Island (Kiritimati), staying at Ikari House and chasing Bonefish and GTs. Then we fly to the even more remote Fanning Island, where only six anglers per week can fish these untouched flats.
We’ve timed this 14-day trip to perfection—working the moon phase and tides for optimal conditions on both islands. You’ll be joined by experienced local guides and hosted by our team.
Interested? No commitment, no deposit. Just email or call to be added to the early list and receive our full information pack.
This trip is strictly limited to six anglers so, as always, remember: first in goes fishing.

TRIP ITINERARY
Travel Day (Tuesday March 31): USA anglers will fly to Honolulu for a Tuesday flight to Cassidy International Airport on Kiritimati (Christmas Island) via Fiji Airways.
Southern Hemisphere anglers travelling through Fiji will arrive into Nadi and take the connecting Fiji Airways flight to CXI.
As the transit time at Nadi is typically less than 6 hours, and from early 2025, you are now unable to exist Customs and leave the airport for a curry and a beer. If flying economy, it is strongly recommended to lodge a ‘Bula Bid’ upgrade option to ensure lounge access.
Trip Day 1 (Wednesday April 1): For USA anglers flying Tuesday March 31, the Honolulu-CXI leg arrives into CXI on Wednesday April 1 due to crossing the International Dateline.
Southern Hemisphere anglers land early and transfer to Port Lodge for a single night accommodation. This group can get a cheeky day of fishing in while we wait for the USA-domiciled anglers to arrive in the afternoon.
All anglers are housed in single air-conditioned rooms at Port Lodge.
Trip Day 2 (Thursday April 2): After repacking the previous evening, we have an early departure to the airport. Our 9am flight to Fanning Island lands at approximately 10.50am. We relocate to our rustic hut accommodation with essential supplies –then we fish all afternoon.
Trip Day 3-6: Fishing on Fanning Island involves daily travel by boat to our selected locations, depending on the tides and weather. We’ll pack snacks and lunches daily, and have simple evening meals, typically seafood. Remember your electrolytes and drink plenty of water in the tropical heat.
Trip Day 7 (Tuesday April 7): You’ll have time to fish for the morning and then we head to the island airport for our flight back to CXI. We spend another night at Port Lodge on Kiritimati with hot showers, some mid-trip celebrations and a few Fanning Island awards are handed out in jest.
Trip Day 8-14: After an early cooked breakfast, we transfer to Ikari House – our CXI base for the next seven days of fishing – meet our guides and we’re onto fast boats to travel to our chosen Christmas Island flats to chase bonefish, GT’s, bluefin trevally and elusive triggerfish.
Travel Day (Wednesday April 15): USA anglers depart very early for Honolulu (remember that you go through the Dateline so land on Tuesday!).
Those transiting through Fiji are able to book an additional morning on the flats before your afternoon flight to Nadi, and taxi/Uber to your airport hotel, a curry and beer at Denarau, and then onto Australia or New Zealand on Thursday April 15th.

What it does offer in abundance is truly world-class flats fly fishing that’s hard to find on the main.
You’ll be casting to double-digit Bonefish and monstrous Giant Trevally – all on the fly, all wading, fishing endless flats up to 10 hours a day, for 12+ days over your two week stay, and across two unforgettable islands.
It is wild, raw and remote – exploration angling at its finest. Don’t miss this chance to fish Fanning Island in 2026.

TRIP ENQUIRIES
Please contact us by sending us a message via our Contact Form, or calling us to discuss availability.
We will share more trip information with you via email and phone to discuss this adventure, answer your questions and understand more about your saltwater fly fishing experience and what you’re looking for from this trip.
SKILL LEVEL
You do NOT need to be an expert saltwater fly angler to enjoy this trip. We, together with your guide, will assist you throughout the trip. Being able to cast proficiently is a prerequisite though. You should be able to cast heavy flies into wind with 7-9 weight and 10-12 weight single handed rods and saltwater fly lines.
WEATHER
Being close to the equator, it’s warm every day – typically within a couple of degrees of 80 Fahrenheit (27 Celsius). It’s often windy and with rain squalls that can arrive without warning. You’ll need to pack a light rain jacket and it can be breezy travelling by fast boat to our daily destinations, so bring a warm hoody or vest just in case.
Otherwise, sun protection is the order of the day. Pack suncream, quality sun protection apparel, a Buff and gloves, wide-brimmed hat (and a backup), chapstick for your lips and we’ll have plenty of water to stay hydrated in the chilly bin.
SATELLITE PHONE/MESSAGING
We carry multiple Garmin Inreach Mini2 messaging devices, an Iridium Extreme Satellite Telephone and a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) on every trip. You can call home, send messages to cellphones as you wish, or message between teams on the river, plus this technology allow us to receive weather updates daily throughout the expedition, and to schedule our helicopter pickups.
In the event of a medical emergency, we will have direct contact with Global Rescue (or whomever you are insured with) for urgent evacuation to the nearest medical centre.
