Welcome to
JURASSIC LAKE LODGE
JURASSIC LAKE LODGE, ARGENTINE PATAGONIA
Isolation Outfitters’ Jurassic Lake Lodge program at Lake Strobel delivers a truly exceptional fly‑fishing experience in one of the world’s most iconic trout fisheries with trophy rainbows in pristine lake and river beats, thoughtful lodging and logistics, and expert guiding for seasoned and aspiring anglers alike.
Jurassic Lake Lodge is perfect for expedition anglers chasing adrenaline, solitude, and legendary chromer hookups against the backdrop of windswept Patagonian wilderness.
This is a trophy rainbow trout fishery of global renown. Average fish exceed 10lb, with many in the mid‑teens and frequent monsters into the 20lb+ range.
Located on Lago Strobel in one of the most remote and untamed corners of Argentine Patagonia, Jurassic Lake Lodge is set on a protected bay at the mouth of the Rio Barrancoso, the only significant tributary to this vast wind‑scoured lake.
Anglers stay within easy walking distance of the most productive beats, but guests may also venture further afield to secluded sections of the Barrancoso River, Moro Creek, and hidden lagoons for a mix of river and lake fishing (sometimes accessed via short vehicle transfers).
The Rio Barrancoso, running beside the lodge, may be the best trophy trout streams in the world.

WORLD CLASS TROPHY RAINBOW TROUT FISHING IN ARGENTINA
Isolation Outfitters’ Jurassic Lake Lodge program delivers a truly exceptional fly‑fishing experience in one of the world’s most iconic trout fisheries – trophy‑size rainbows in pristine lake and river beats, thoughtful lodging and logistics, and expert guiding for seasoned and aspiring anglers alike.
Perfect for anglers chasing adrenaline, solitude, and legendary hookups with truly trophy Rainbow trout against the backdrop of windswept Patagonian wilderness.
AREA & LOCALITY
The lodge occupies private estancia land commanding over 10 miles of prime shoreline on Strobel Lake’s southwest shore.
The Barrancoso River traverses the property from its high‑Andean headwaters to the lake inlet, offering world‑class sight and dry‑fly fishing in crystal‑clear freestone water.
The stark, wind‑blown high desert plateau is a wilderness playground. Expect windswept beaches, rolling pampas plains, and Andean steps with rare wildlife sightings (guanacos, condors, foxes) amid vast solitude.
FISHING PROGRAM
Fishing methods: All wading or bank fishing. There are no boats on Lago Strobel. Small groups share a single guide for stream or lake beats, typically two or three anglers per guide and rotate through the most productive beats.
Beats rotation: Core rotation includes:
Right of the Mouth
Left of the Mouth inlet section
Bay of Pigs (legendary for huge fish)
Lower Barrancoso River (excellent sight‑fishing ‘aquarium hole’) – all within short walking distance from the lodge.
Expanded fishing: Remote sections of the river (mid/upper) and Moro Creek lagoons offer more solitude, fresh challenges, and excellent streamer/dry‑fly opportunities, depending on season and water flows.
SEASONALITY (SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE)
Spring/early season (October–early January): Massive trout staging at the river mouth during spawning migration; prime time for big fish in high concentration.
Mid‑season (mid‑January to mid‑March): Still strong catch rates and warmer, more stable weather; ideal for sight casting along the shoreline.
Late season (mid‑March to May): Fish feed heavily before winter, temperatures cool, and conditions often dramatic – excellent opportunity for chrome‑bright giants.
ACCOMMODATION & AMENITIES
Capacity: up to 10 anglers in single or double occupancy rooms, each with private en‑suite bathroom and hot shower, plus communal living and dining areas overlooking the lake.
Connectivity: powered by solar energy; internet, satellite TV and phone available; electricity and hot water 24/7.
Cuisine: Argentinian gourmet meals prepared by local chef – think hearty Asado’s, Patagonian lamb, cold cuts, regional wines, and a well‑stocked whiskey bar for evenings.
TRAVEL & GEAR NOTES
How to get there: Fly into Buenos Aires, connect via domestic flight to El Calafate (FTE) or Comodoro Rivadavia (CRD), then over‑land road transfer or optional lodge charter flight.
Domestic flight rules: Fishing gear is generally not permitted as carry‑on and must be checked for all internal flights within Argentina. Please check with your travel agent or airline for current carry-on requirements and allowances.
Gear recommendations: 6–9 weight single or double-hand rods; floating or intermediate lines; scuds, streamers, nymphs and dry flies. Lighter tackle works well along river margins; heavier gear ideal for lake fishing and deep fishing in bays.

TRIP ENQUIRIES
Please contact us by sending us a message via our Contact Form, email us, or call us to discuss availability at Jurassic Lake Lodge for this coming Southern Hemisphere summer. There are limited dates available January through to April 2026.
After your enquiry, we will share more trip information with you via email and phone, and discuss your fly fishing experience and understand what you’re looking for from this lodge trip.
TRAVELLING TO JURASSIC LAKE LODGE
You are flying to Argentina so international anglers should land in Buenos Aires and allow for a day and evening to acclimatise and prepare to travel down to either El Calafate (inland) or Comodoro Rivadavia (on the eastern seaboard).
OPTIONAL CHARTER FLIGHT
We can arrange a flight in (approx 1 hour from El Calafate or Comodoro) at an additional cost of around US$500 per person one way. This avoids the 6 hour long drive from El Calafate to Jurassic Lake Lodge.
TRANSFERING TO/FROM RIO GRANDE
If you are flying from a prior trip with Isolation Outfitters via Rio Grande or Rio Irigoyen, and have included Jurassic Lake Lodge in your itinerary, we will arrange plane transfers from either Ushuaia or Rio Grande airport to El Calafate where you will be met by Jurassic Lake staff, or can choose to take the optional charter flight closer to the lodge.
If you are planning to fish at Lago Strobel and then locate further south to fish for large sea-run brown trout, please call us to discuss best options for the time of the season you are planning to visit Patagonia.
SINGLE ANGLERS
Jurassic Lake Lodge is set up to accommodate angling groups of up to ten and we can often accommodate a single angler. Please contact us to discuss this option.
